PROPOSED TITLE: A Novel Neural Network Based Electronic Vocal Translator For The Dumb

ABSTRACT: Vocally disabled people are deprived of the natural ability to speak. The only means of communication available to them is the use of dumb sign language. The sole knowledge of sign language restricts them from expressing their thoughts to the world outside. Our paper aims at solving this very problem and blesses the dumb (disabled) people with the gift of speech by the use of an electronic vocal translator. The electronic vocal translator is an automatic gesture recognition system which basically consists of an electronic glove and a speech synthesizer module. The glove recognizes the double handed gestures made by the vocally disabled people and the speech synthesizer module produces the corresponding voice output. The system is natural and interactive, with real time identification and processing of gestures. It also avoids manual techniques of gesture demarcation by the use of a detector. Artificial neural network is employed to train the system to impart the generalized recognition of gesture which uses supervised learning algorithm.
