1. Assuming Raoults law to be valid for the system benzene(1) and ethylbenzene (2). a. Prepare a P-x-y diagram for a temperature of 100oC b. Prepare T-x-y and and x-y diagrams for a temperature of 101.33 kPa.
ln P sat (kPa) = 13.8858 1 ln P2sat (kPa) = 14.0045 2788.51 T (C o ) + 220.79 3297.47 T (C o ) + 213.20

2. Two compounds A and B are known to form ideal liquid solutions. A vapor mixture containing 30 mol% A and 70 mol% B is initially at 60oC and 1 bar. The mixture is compressed isothermally until condensation occurs. a. At what pressure does condensation start and what is the composition of the liquid that forms first? b. At what pressure is the condensation completed and what is the composition of the last bubble of vapor? The vapor pressures of A and B at60oC are 0.95 bar and 1.30 bar, respectively. 3. A mixture of 25 mol% n-pentane, 45 mol% n-hexane, and 30 mol% n-heptane is flashed isothermally at 85oC and 170 kPa. If the liquid-to-feed ratio is 0.75, estimate the liquid and vapor compositions.
