Task 1 Conventions of music magazines: Front Cover: Masthead, Main Image/Photograph of an artist, Cover lines and cover stories,

layout following one of the conventional layout rules (e.g. Rule of Thirds), 3 colour pallet, black and white text (excluding Masthead), Pull Quotes, Barcode, Price, Date, Easy to read fonts (e.g. Sans Serif) Contents: Clear Title Contents, List of articles and page numbers, images with captions, variations in colour to catch the eye, similar fonts to cover, easy to read fonts (especially for smaller writing), layout rules in place (e.g. Rule of Thirds) Double Page Spread: Headline/Title, larger image (perhaps taking up one page), possibly smaller images where necessary, pull quotes in larger text, easy to read font for article, article would be from artists point of view and/or include an interview, important questions, beginning letter of article would be larger (Kicker) General/Other Elements: Music Reviews, Album Reviews, Concert Reviews, Tour Dates, Festival Dates and Line Ups, Information on new or up-coming bands, albums and singles, interviews with artists (bands and singers etc), competitions, advertisements (especially music/album related adverts)

Conventions of Music Videos: Close ups and key focus on artist, performance by artist, narrative background to match song lyrics/theme, male/female gaze elements (depending on target audience), jump cuts (unrealistic time frames), panning and tilting shots, crane shots and long shots of locations (where relevant), animation, lip-syncing by artist, props and costume to match genre, theme and location, mise-en-scene to fit genre and theme.

Conventions of ancillary products (digipak & magazine advert): Digipak: Name of artist/band and name of album (both on the cover), track list,

copyright information, record label logo, images of artist, price, website, barcode, credits, producers, colours and style to fit genre, booklet, lyrics Advertisement: Name of band/artist, name of album, images that match those on the album, ratings, comments/quotes from reviews, websites, record label logo
