Teaching and Learning Activities Students brainstorm ideas on what they think makes a good speaker. Class develops a good speaker chart that can be referred to regularly
Notes/Evaluation
Attentive audience
Students brainstorm questions to ask each other about their daily oral presentation. Discuss appropriate questioning techniques and use of language. Role-play being an attentive audience.
Teaching and Learning Activities Each student writes down a topic on a strip of paper. Teacher also has prepared topics to add. Topics are put into a Topic Talk box. Teacher models task of preparing talk Students each then select topic from the box to present and have 10 minutes to write down as much as they can on the topic. Students present their speeches to the class. Once all students have completed this task it can be repeated on a regular basis.
Notes/Evaluation
Remind students of being an attentive audience. Audience uses whiteboards to record two points made by each speaker in the above speeches. The teacher can then choose a student to share their response.
Oral Presentation
The students are given a variety of topics to research and must prepare notes for a one minute oral presentation. They can use palm cards or memorise the speech for their presentation.
