It tells me that its a poem that praises a song. Its about people not talking to each other when we go to work or school. I selected the poem because I liked it because I liked the meaning of the poem. It interested me by the words in the title of the poem. It gave me the mood to talk to people I dont know.

Each day we go about our business, Walking past each other, catching each others eyes or not, about to speak or speaking. All about us is noise. All about us is noise and bramble, thorn and din, each one of our ancestors on our tongues. Someone is stitching up a hem, darning a hole in a uniform, patching a tire, repairing the things in need of repair. Someone is trying to make music somewhere, with a pair of wooden spoons on an oil drum, with cello, boom box, harmonica, voice. A woman and her son wait for the bus. A farmer considers the changing sky. A teacher says, Take out your pencils. Begin. We encounter each other in words, words spiny or smooth, whispered or declaimed, Words to consider, reconsider.

This month is black history month. We need to celebrate it. Black History Month is celebrated in the month of February all over America. Carter G. Woodson, a historian and professor established the Negro History Week in 1926 to commemorate the efforts and hard work of African Americans to the American society. In 1976, the revelry was extended for the entire month and celebrated all over America. I selected this poem because I like the way the
