DAFT CONSERVATIVE PROPOSALS

The reckless proposal to slash highways maintenance. The plan would have saved 35m over 3 years but the damage caused to our roads would have cost 200m+ to fix. A good example of the short-term lunacy regularly practised by Somerset Conservatives.

The unlawful plan to close libraries in Somerset, including the only one in the Lydeard Division. Your Conservative County Councillor voted through the budget that forced such a cut.

The sell-off of public forest that had been in the care of the County Council for generations. Even the National Government backed away from such unpopular action, which given the paltry sums raised was pointless in any case. Your Conservative County Councillor voted in favour of this.

Planning to make a flooding officer redundant despite the fact that he had attracted over 7m in external water management funding to Somerset;

Abolishing the Countryside Team that looks after our beautiful environment.

Handing 20,000 of taxpayers money to retail giant Tesco to subsidise their planning application;

Closures and introduction of fees at Household Waste Recycling Sites, a move that has increased fly-tipping in Taunton Deane by over 60%.
