Chile a Cultural Paradise

Chiles Unique Geography Chiles geographic barriers the Atacama Desert to the north, the Andes Mountains to the east, the Patagonian ice fields to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the westmakes Chile a veritable agricultural island. Together, they help maintain healthy conditions and protect vineyards against pests and diseases. What Makes the Difference Chiles climate is highly influenced by the cooling effect of the Pacific Ocean and the Humboldt Current that begins in the icy waters near Antarctica and flows up the western coast of South America. Curiously, when the effect of the Humboldts cold current hits Chiles northern coastline it produces clouds and fog, but little or no precipitation, which then contributes to making the Atacama Desert the driest on Earth. Cruising down the Center Chiles long stretch of Pan American Highway cruises straight through the Central Valley, over the rivers that flow westward from the Andes and around the sections of the Coastal Mountains that jut inland from time to time. Varieties such as Carmnre adore this even keel of an environment, where the weather is stable and the land is generally rich. The Influence of the Pacific Currents on Chiles Climate The cool sea air is partially blocked by the Coastal Mountains, although it finds its way inland by following the course of the transverse river valleys. During the day, sea breezes carried by the cold Humboldt Current penetrate inland, and each night, cold air descends from the snowcovered peaks of the Andes.

The Barros family ancestry goes back to 1587 in Chile, when Juan de Barros arrives to Chile sent by the Spanish crown to develop Spanish institutions. When he reached the Maipo Valley, he saw the great potential of this valley to produce wines. Many generations passed by, until 1958, when Mr. Gabriel Barros Larran decided to follow his dream acquiring some lands in the Maipo and founded Las Bandurrias de Pirque state, to develop agriculture and viticulture.

Our Valleys
Our production is focused in two of the most prestigious wine valleys of Chile. Our red wines are produced in the Maipo Valley and our white wines are produced in the Curic Valley.

History

What can you tell us about the vineyard?

During the 80s my father, Gabriel Barros Larran, was developing agriculture in the Maipo, when he decides to start planting the firsts vineyards, to satisfy the scarcity of premium quality grapes to large local wineries. The Maipo valley is consider among the 10 most prestigious wine valleys in the world, so production did very good from its beginning, and quality has improved over the time. Nowadays we have an aggressive plan of expansion to commercialize our brands in the 5 continent region and reach all the tables of the world.

The Maipo Valley is the closest valley to Santiago, the capital of Chile. Vineyards stretch eastward from Santiago to the Andes and westward to the coast to form three distinct sectors of the Maipo Valley best known for its well-balanced red wines. Alto Maipo reaches into the foothills and produces some of Chiles leading Cabernets. Central Maipo is one of the countrys oldest and most diverse productive regions.

In the mid-80s, Gabriel Barros decided to plant vineyards to provide top quality grapes to large local wineries. In 2009, two sons of Gabriel, Sebastin and Jos Agustn, decide to keep some grapes to produce a family reserve wine, to share with their relatives and friends. The success was immediate and in 2011 TerraChile was established to give you the opportunity in tasting their wines, and enjoy the experience of our great wines from Maipo and Curic valleys.

We are currently in the process of international expansion; the idea is to take our wines to a large number of homes in the world. We are developing important relationships in Europe, Asia and America in general. For them we have formed a team of specialist that are conducting this process, together with the great support of Pro-Chile ( a local and international government entity) to ensure the achievement of our goals. We have very good wine for each segment, with great value and high-potential brands. The goal is to generate significant long-term business partnerships all around the globe.

About the Curic Valley: Located 200 kms south from Santiago. Diversity is king in Curic, where more than 30 varieties of wine grapes have grown since the mid-1800s, and winegrowing is its primary industry.
