Interview The inmate we interviewed is 41 years of age and is residing in BF Homes Paraaque and is separated with two (2)

kids. He is serving inside the maximum compound of Bilibid prison for nine (9) years and a half (1/2) with the sentence of Reclusion Perpetua (life imprisonment) and is convicted of Rape. He is a seaman before he entered the New Bilibid Prison. The facility in which he came from is Paraaque City Jail and stayed there for two (2) and a half (1/2) years before entering NBP. He said that he had no bad experiences in this facility and as a matter of fact he always has visitors there and he also became one of the officers there. Talking about the problems that he encountered in the New Bilibid Prison Maximum Security, he told us that he dont have any problems encountered when it comes to its facilities because when he came in 2003 the NBP was fully developed already. When it comes to his relationship with the other inmates, he told us that being a structural manager and a church holder he dont have any problems encountered yet. When it comes to the food, he then told us that their food supply is not enough because the food that is given to them is fixed so the tendency is they will buy extra food for their own. The water is also limited because there is only a time that the water will be opened but only for one hour to think that many of them will use it. When it comes to communication, he said that they dont have any problems because they can still access the internet and they have telephone booths inside. Now, talking about the programs or policies of NBP, he told us that he is not having any problem because its good for reformation. Regarding with his relationship with the jail guard or director or other trustees inside, he then told us that he dont have any problems with them personally because he is following all the rules given to him. Talking about the irregularities inside the compound, one irregularity we talked about is the Kubol system or what we called sleep-out privilege, he told us that a sleep-out privilege can only be granted if there were facilities inside that is needed to be guarded. The sleepout privilege can only be given to the officers who have the responsibility of guarding the facilities. Talking about the process on how he handles all the test and trials he encountered in his long stay in NBP, he told us that he prepared himself first before entering and he also prayed to God that He will guide him whatever happens to him inside. When it comes to the problems he encountered regarding his family when he first enter the NBP and how he handles it, he told us that his wife and him got separated because he got jailed but when it comes to his relatives, he have no problems because they are always visiting him. When it comes on his everyday living inside and how he relieves his boredom, he told us that he is making himself busy in teaching arts, being a church holder, being a dorm officer, and vice president of Kulay Group. That is his daily routines starting in the morning up to the evening, he even told us that he is not getting enough sleep because

of the duties and responsibilities he needs to do. The happiest experience he had inside the bilibid is the time where he discovered his talent for arts and the moment he became closer to God. We then talked about the things he want to do when given a chance to be free again, he told us that he still want to continue studying and still continue being an artist that he first started inside the bilibid.
