Government of Ireland
A sovereign, democratic nation
The government of Ireland is a parliamentary democracy. It has an executive branch, a president, but this president acts more as a figure head than any other role. He or She has the power to aid in the passing of law but does not go beyond the powers of the Head of State. The constitution of Ireland grants many the same rights as is seen in the United States or other free democracies. It guarantees the right to free religion, property, education and guarantees to protect the institution of family and marriage. The legislature is called the Dail and acts as the lead of the government. It has a prime minister and deputy prime minister (called the Taoiseach) and is modeled after the legislature of England.
