NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON

PUBLIC INTEREST PROTECTION IN IPR LAW AND PRACTICE

6th 9th APRIL, 2013 AT NLSIU, BANGALORE

OBJECTS

After nearly a decade of several IPR laws having been put in the Indian Statute Book, how does the new legal regime impact on public interest and larger concerns raised in Parliament, TRIPS negotiations, judicial opinions and administrative bodies? Do we need changes in the way IPR law is taught, practiced, interpreted and administered so as to protect human rights of weaker sections and to promote national interests? This workshop will address issues involved in the ongoing debate based on empirical evidence and best practices. The workshop is open to 30 selected participants and 10 invited Resource Persons. It is part of the continuing legal education programmes for lawyers and law teachers organized under the auspices of IBA Chair and Therefore, teachers of IPR in law schools, advocates practicing IPR administrators involved in IPR in Government are eligible to apply.

The sponsors will take care of boarding, lodging and other organizational expenses. There is no registration fee either. The cost is subsidized with a Ford Foundation grant to NLSIU.
