Medical Student Travel Bursary

Open to: The Encephalitis Society would like to invite UK medical school students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels interested in Encephalitis to apply for their Medical Student Travel Bursary. The bursary can be used to present a project on Encephalitis at a conference (outside the UK), or elective travel, or to visit a laboratory, research or clinical group working on Encephalitis, if it supports some aspect of the students work in this area. A prize of 500 will be awarded to the student who best demonstrates how people affected by Encephalitis will benefit from their travel plans or conference attendance. The winner will be announced at the Societys Professional Panel meeting on 2nd December 2013 and travel can take place any time the following year up to 30th November 2014. The winner will be required to give a presentation at The Societys Professional Panel meeting in December 2014 to provide an overview of their travel, illustrate how this was of benefit to people affected by Encephalitis and how receiving the bursary made a difference. Criteria: The applicant should be a medical student in a recognised UK Medical School. Entries will be judged on relevance to Encephalitis, benefit to people affected by the condition, and the robust and transparent nature of the application. Candidates should supply: a 1000 word application outlining the trip, costs, relevance to Encephalitis, expected benefit to people affected by the condition as a result of their trip and the impact for the students professional development; a current Curriculum Vitae; a letter from their Head of Department and/or a senior colleague/specialist supporting their application; and a letter accepting the candidate at the conference or centre to be visited. Deadline: Submissions are due in electronic Word format by 12 noon 1st October 2013 for the attention of Ava Easton ava@encephalitis.info Hard copy and pdfs will not be accepted for the submission and CV (pdfs will be accepted for the supporting letters).
