Conditions for research grants from the Dementia Foundation

The Dementia Fund is the Dementia Association's fund for research into Alzheimer's
disease and other dementias.

Every year, the Dementia Foundation awards scholarships for medical research,
nursing research, development of support for dementia patients and their relatives, and
information about dementia diseases. The fund is managed by the
Dementia Association.

These conditions apply from the awarding of the 2020 scholarships. If other than the conditions apply
to an individual research grant, this is specifically stated in the decision sent by letter to the granted
application.

Eligibility to apply The

application must apply to research into Alzheimer's disease, other dementia diseases or
nursing research. Eligible to apply is a doctoral researcher at a university or equivalent
educational institution. Non-dissertated applicants must attach a certificate from the supervisor
to the scholarship application. Research grants are applied for by the person
responsible for the application/research project. Only one application per person is accepted.
Payment of grants is made to the relevant institution/university and cannot be made to a
private personal account.

Duration of the scholarship

The basic rule is that a scholarship is applied for one year at a time. However, many research projects
span several years. The Dementia Fund therefore grants in some cases, if the project shows significant
progress, an additional scholarship for a maximum of three years for the same application. If
a research project is judged to have high potential, a multi-year grant can be granted from the start.

Special investments
Particularly urgent investments may be decided by the Dementia Foundation and its
scientific council. The duration of the scholarship described above also applies to these ventures,
i.e. the venture can be granted a scholarship for one, two or a maximum of three years.
Examples of special investments can be research into unusual dementia diseases, and research into
BPSD problems. If a special investment is to be made, this is stated in connection with the
opening and announcement of the application period.

Granted research grant

major change in disposition is needed, this must be approved in writing by the Dementia Fund.

Applicants who have had their application approved are notified by post in close connection with the decision
of the scientific council. The Dementia Fund pays out granted funds against a written requisition that is attached
to the notification of granted research grant. The requisition must be signed by both the applicant and the head of
the department concerned or equivalent.

The research grant is only paid to the institution or university, never to an individual, personal account.

Unclaimed funds are returned, without prior notice, to the Dementia Fund on June 30, two years after
the grant was granted. Funds that have not been used must also be returned to the
Dementia Fund at this time.

The project manager must be employed by the managing institution/university. If the employer is someone
else, he must approve the applicant's commitments.

If the applicant or the applicant's principal moves or for other reasons cannot continue the project
according to the granted application, the Dementia Fund must be notified of this. Decisions about how the
member will continue to be managed, or alternatively reimbursed, are made in each individual case.

Accounting

The applicant is responsible for reporting the use of granted funds and that these have been
used in accordance with the information provided in the application. The Dementia Fund has the right
to receive a detailed report from the institution or university upon request.

Furthermore, upon request, the applicant must submit a report of research results after the end of the
disposition period, i.e. two years. If the project duration is longer than two years and a new application is
received for the same project, a report must be attached in order for new grants to be granted.

Scholarship holders who have received a scholarship, or a person appointed by them, must be able
to present their projects orally and to the public if the fund so wishes. This can be at local association
meetings, at newly started dementia associations or at national meetings. These reports may
take place at any time during the time the scholarship has been granted, i.e. one, two or three years.

It is the department/university's responsibility to provide a written report that may be requested by

the Dementia Fund.
