INTO WHAT THEN WERE YOU BAPTIZED? ACT 19:1-7

Acts 19:1-7 (NKJV)

1 And

it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2 he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." 3 And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" So they said, "Into John's baptism." 4 Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. 7 Now the men were about twelve in all.

Some of our preachers have gotten away from the Fundamentals!! UNLESS WE STAY WITH THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE GOSPEL OF CHRISTWE WILL LOSE EVERYTHING WEVE GAINED IN THE RESTORATION MOVEMENT!!!

THEY PREACHED THE FUNDAMENTALS

 A LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF ANY BIBLE SUBJECT IS A DANGEROUS THING...AND THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE OF OUR SUBJECT AT HAND!
Here was a very eloquent preacher named Apollos But just because he's a good speaker doesn't mean that what he has to say is the TRUTH OF GOD'S WORD! ON THE SUBJECT OF "BAPTISM APOLLOS DID NOT HAVE ALL THE FACTS!
THE PEOPLE HE TAUGHT & BAPTIZED WERE TAUGHT & BAPTIZED AGAIN BY THE APOSTLE PAUL [Can I say again?]

YOU CANNOT BE TAUGHT WRONG AND BAPTIZED RIGHT!

NOTE WITH ME WHAT HAPPENED HERE IN ACTS 19 __ 1) APOLLOS HAD BEEN IN EPHESUS PREACHING & MAKING CONVERTS... THEN HE MOVED ON TO CORINTH. 2) IMMEDIATELY BEHIND HIM CAME PAUL....& RAN INTO THESE 12 CONVERTS. 3) APOLLOS HAD KNOWN ONLY THE BAPTISM OF JOHN THE BAPTIST...SO HE BAPTIZED THEM BASED ON WHAT HE KNEW! HE JUST DIDN'T KNOW ENOUGH! HE WAS SINCERE, BUT WRONG!!

MUST THE BAPTIZER HOLD HIS HAND UP?? OR SAY CERTAIN WORDS?? NOT NECESSARILY!!! MUST THE PERSON BEING BAPTIZED UNDERSTAND THE RUDIMENTS OF FAITH IN CHRIST? Is Baptism a Work of Merit?? A WORK OF FAITH!!! THE CANDIDATE MUST UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE HE OR SHE IS BEING IMMERSED FOR IT IS IN OBEDIENCE TO THE COMMAND OF JESUS?? "UNTO WHAT WERE YOU BAPTIZED?" IS AN APPROPRIATE QUESTION FOR THE 21ST CENTURY....AS WELL AS THE 1ST CENTURY! A LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF ANY SUBJECT IS A DANGEROUS THING...AND THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE OF OUR SUBJECT AT HAND!

INTO WHAT WERE YOU BAPTIZED?"

I. THE BIBLE TEACHES WE ARE "BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST. (GAL 3:26-27)

YET, PEOPLE CONTEND OH, I DON'T BELIEVE YOU HAVE TO BE BAPTIZED IN ORDER TO BE SAVED.

II. THE BIBLE SAYS WE ARE "BAPTIZED INTO THE DEATH OF CHRIST. (ROM 6:3-4)

III. THE BIBLE SAYS WE ARE "BAPTIZED INTO THE BODY OF CHRIST. (1COR 12:13)

JOHN 3:5

IV. THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT A MAN MUST BE BAPTIZED "INTO THE NAME OF [THE GODHEAD] (MATT 28:18-20; ACT 2:38)

ACTS 2:38 IN the name of (Gk. EPI TO ONOMATI) means By the authority of. [Lost people are without a choice they must be baptized by His authority in order to be saved!!] Matthew 28:19 INTO the name of (Gk. EIS TO ONOMA) means Into the possession of. [When we are baptized in order to be saved we become the possession of the Godhead.]

IF WHEN BAPTIZED YOU

PUT ON CHRIST (GAL 3:27) WASH AWAY SINS (ACTS 22:16) HAVE REMISSION OF SINS (ACTS 2:38) ARE MADE FREE FROM SIN (ROM 6:17-18) BENEFITD BY JESUS DEATH (ROM 6:3-4) ENTER INTO THE BODY OF CHRIST (1COR 12:13)

WHAT IS ONES CONDITION WITHOUT BAPTISM???

CONCLUSION: EVERYONE ON EARTH OF AN ACCOUNTABLE AGE MUST ANSWER TO GOD FOR THEMSELVES...
CAN ONE BE SAVED WITHOUT SUBMITTING TO BAPTISM?

YES?
