Essay:

Cooperation rather than competition should be encouraged among high school students Success in the modern times requires fierce competition between young adults such as students. However, being too competitive can lead to several devastating outcomes. Therefore, it is suggested that cooperation rather than competition should be encouraged among high-school students. I am completely in favor of this opinion.

As far as some people are concerned, competition can create motivation for children to make progress. To my way of thinking, however, competition is more of a hindrance than a help due to many reasons. In the first place, competition causes the desire to win other people, which results in the fact that it is likely for competitive students to be so materialistic that they may lose their morality, self-esteem and compassion for other people. They will probably do everything, even bad things such as breaking the rules or playing unfairly, in their power to get what they want. Secondly, too much competition also does damage to our health since it is the direct root of pressure and stress. We cannot definitely relax and enjoy ourselves when we worry too much about how to beat other competitors every time. Cooperation, on the other hand, creates the desire to succeed, not to win over other people. Research shows that cooperation raises standards, and promotes higher achievement than competition. Moreover,it is indicated that successful people love a challenge, but they are not motivated by winning. In some cases, cooperation means competition, in which competitors are cooperating to bring out the best in each other. They are cooperating by being be in the same place at the same time and following the rules. Last but

not least, cooperation can positively contribute to the enhancement of the mutual understanding and solidarity between students.

In conclusion, high-school students should not be taught to be extremely competitive. By contrast, it is advisable for them to cooperate with other students to reach the highest standard of success.
