    Scientists used DNA barcoding to identify ancient olive and cornelian cherry seeds found in Italy. They were able to extract and sequence DNA from the seed samples, which ranged from 400 to 2800 years old. Comparing the seed DNA sequences to reference sequences for olive and cornelian cherry confirmed the identification of the plant species. This study demonstrated that DNA barcoding can be used to identify archaeological plant remains and study the history of agriculture and plant domestication.
