The Nature Conservation Council of NSW Bushfire Program presents its 9th Biennial Bushfire Conference and is accepting abstracts for speed talks, oral papers and posters. Climate change poses severe challenges for Australias unique biodiversity as well as human communities. Innovative fire management strategies will be required to increase the resilience of our environment and communities. Such strategies will utilise the most effective combination of treatments, the best available science and take community and biodiversity values into account. This conference will explore the role holistic fire management can play in sustaining healthier landscapes and investigate ways to build cohesive communities which are more connected to their local environment in a changing climate. There will be four symposia on the following themes: 1. Resilience (environmental, social and cultural) What is it? How do we achieve it? 2. Good fire vs bad fire Managing fire to meet desirable local outcomes 3. Using fire for restoration More than burning within specific thresholds 4. Strengthening community resilience Available tools and how to use them To register your attendance, submit an abstract or obtain more information, please go to www.nccnsw.org.au/programs/2013-bushfire-conference or email Michelle Rose/Anne Miehs at BushfireConf2013@nccnsw.org.au
