Am I the only one?

No others dare to seek Answers within the world, signs showing what this world means I ground a set of lenses and trained them on the stars I quantified the evening skies, examined every part I analysed the glory of a thousand cosmic shapes And watched the glory fade I searched across the face of God And found just empty space Look clo - ser, look clo - ser And surely you'll find your goal You'll surely find the way I built my new laboratory to shelter from the world I turned my gaze from moons and suns to particles of dirt But soon surmised my lenses weren't sufficient to display The truths I sorely craved I ground more glass, aligned the parts And recommenced the chase Look clo - ser, look clo - ser And one day the world will know The world will know your name I'm sure I'm getting nearer, I haven't slept in days The answers are in front of me, but hidden from my gaze My lenses won't illuminate the questions that I face Some truths won't be betrayed While I fight to reach the light The silent dark pervades Look closer, look closer I'll never hide my eyes I'll never look away
