To Whom It May Concern: March 2013, As the supervising teacher from Miami University, I am recommending Daniel Toberman for a teaching position in earth and life science. He completed his student teaching in Hamilton, Ohio at Garfield Middle School, and Hamilton Freshman School. Daniel did a commendable job student teaching. In each of his teaching assignments, he was active in the classroom from the beginning, assisting in each of the lessons, getting to know the students. He began each of the classes with positives from students, a review of previous material, or question of the day. Daniel was also professional and knowledgeable; making his lesson plans interesting and motivating. These plans included power points, demonstrations, cooperative learning activities, and lab activities. Class time was used effectively. At the middle school, Daniel worked on the Metric system, and force and speed. This was demonstrated with the Bocce ball, completing an experimental design, to test their hypothesis in cooperative groups. At the Freshman School, Daniel developed a weather unit, focusing on the idea of convection, cloud formation, and hurricanes, using a variety of instructional methods. In both units, he used both informal and formal assessments. Being knowledgeable in the content area, he made concepts comprehensible to students. In both schools, Daniel established an immediate rapport with diverse students. When students worked in groups, he monitored and advised each of the groups, allowing students to think through problems. Students knew that Daniel cared about them, both in their academics and their emotional well-being, motivating them to cooperate and work hard. Daniel displayed the ability to communicate with parents with respect and professionalism. He participated in team meetings, and shows a desire to grow as an educator. I highly recommend Daniel Toberman for a teaching position in science. He has the ability to be a strong educator, and make a positive contribution in the lives of students. Respectfully submitted, Pamela Harring Pamela Harring
