This personal story has never been shared until NOW. Even my wife and close friends did not know of the inner struggles and torture I faced each day. I was asked in March this year to be a co author of Adventures in Manifesting Health & Happiness and I felt the time was right for me to share my story. Do you feel disgust and cringe every time you look in the mirror? Do you get a gut wrenching feeling at the thought of seeing your naked body? Do you sometimes avoid clothes shopping? Or social occasions? Or going to the beach or swimming pool? Is your self image even preventing intimacy with your partner? Is your self image battered and bruised from a lifetime of self doubt, low confidence and a severe lack of self worth? Are you resigned to accepting that you are destined for a lifetime out of shape? Do you wish you were someone else, instead of loving YOU?

I used to feel your pain. I too hated myself, was disgusted with my body, lacked any confidence, had zero self esteem and for many years my self image was in tatters. However I can assure you that it doesn't have to be that way. There is HOPE. There is a WAY. And I hope my personal story of manifestation will inspire you. I challenge you right now to stop feeling sorry for yourself and regain control over your body, mind and ultimately YOUR LIFE. Physical Change is the Catalyst for Success in All Areas of Life I was 8 years of age on a hot summers day, standing on my aunts lawn, drowned in sweat, having spent 2 hours mowing it with a push mower!! A pound coin was placed in my hand a meagre reward for my efforts! She asked a question that lived with me What weight are you? I replied 7 and 1/2 stone. A shocked face responded No way, I am that weight and you are only 8!!!" Another painful memory I remember vividly was being slagged about my belly by 2 classmates. Such incidents were frequent but this particular incident was the straw that broke the camels back as I had considered them good friends. Although always upbeat on the outside I was unhappy and self loathing on the inside. Being very self conscious I started my first diet aged 8, giving up crisps and salt. Puberty and hormones kicked in aged 12 and my body shape changed completely. On the positive excess weight disappeared as my physique completely changed to being so skinny I would disappear when turning sideways. I was very small boned with a frail frame, added to that I was above average height for my age. I had gone from one extreme to the other in a short space of time. I was far from content with my appearance. I loathed myself. I loathed how clothes fitted. As classmates filled out I remained scrawny. I loved sports but was battered around with my skinny weak frame. During teenage years my confidence and self image were at an all time low. Often I would cry alone in my room, wishing it would end.

Suicide often crossed my mind as I neared breaking point on a number of occasions. Externally I was fun to be around, always the joker and had plenty of friends. I enjoyed making people laugh and smile. But on the inside I was empty and lifeless. I still cringe when I see one particular holiday photo from when I was about 15. I was really self conscious about my appearance and felt uneasy in the presence of girls and it was especially unbearable if I fancied them . My process of manifestation is a 2 phase one. Phase 1 : November 1995 to December 2003 and phase 2 is a 12 week journey from January 12th to April 3rd 2004. I will always remember April 3rd 2004 as a pivotal date in my life. Phase 1 starts on November 14th 1995 with my first step into the University Gym after months of encouragement by a good friend of mine. Had I not taken that crucial step I would never have experienced the power of physical change and the life I now lead. For the next few years I consistently trained, often up to 3 hours daily. I also followed a healthy nutrition plan. Although I did feel better and had an improved physique the impact on my subconscious belief was minimal. Phase 2 starts on December 10th 2003. I had been dating my beautiful wife for 4 years and launched Dave Sheahan Personal Training August 2000. However despite the positives I still remained unhappy with my physique and subconsciously the insecurities and poor self image of my teens remained. I felt added pressure in my career as a personal trainer. I needed to transform my body and mindset. I needed a Cover Model Body for ME but also as a role model for clients. I looked at transformation photos in magazines both with admiration and envy. On December 10th 2003 I made the decision not only to enter but to WIN the Irish Body For Life Challenge 2004. I manifested an intense burning desire. I was determined to create a reality that I had never previously experienced. Having spent 8 years intensively studying psychology, exercise and nutrition I had the knowledge required to succeed. Transforming my mindset would be the key. Creating a success mindset is the most critical part of a transformation programme not the exercise and nutrition. Dreams wont become reality until you succeed in shifting your mindset. As Napoleon Hill said in Think & Grow Rich you must see, feel and believe yourself already in possession of the goal. A vision must be driven by impenetrable belief and action must be taken to achieve the result. Belief and action must work in tandem throughout the process of manifestation. I had to make a massive shift mentally having endured a life of negative self image and self doubt. However I had an intense burning desire to succeed and was determined to shake off the shackles. Success would not only impact me personally but would dramatically impact my business, finance and personal life. I cannot stress enough the importance of following a daily mindset training programme. Your mindset training programme should include : Your clearly defined, measureable and most importantly YOUR Goal. Dont let others determine your goal. Make sure your goal is UNREALISTIC. You determine YOUR reality, no one else. My goal was reaching 12 stone 3 with 6% Bodyfat, gaining 24 Ibs muscle and losing 10 IBs fat.

Your Why List List of emotionally charged whys - why you MUST achieve your goal. A statement of Gratitude Create your personal movie scene of the day you achieve success. Write your detailed script in the present tense, utilising all senses. My S.O.G. involved hearing the announcement that I was the 2004 Irish Body For Life Champion as I stood there in my perfectly sculpted body, finally loving myself. Visualisation The most powerful component. Get in a relaxed state, close your eyes and experience and feel your movie Scene while visualising your statement of gratitude.

Complete your mindset programme first thing in the morning and just before bed. If this is your last action before bed you will experience your goal through your dreams. Planning and Organisation were crucial to my 12 week journey. Success requires planning particularly in overcoming the many obstacles one invariably encounters throughout the process of manifestation. Life throws regular curveballs and your reaction determines success. Work schedule I worked 16 hour days but prioritised rising at 4.45am for training session 1 and block booked 2pm daily for session 2. Nutrition As I was stranded in the gym 16 hours a day my weekly shop, nightly planning session and food preparation were crucial. Negative Mindset - Through visualisation your mindset and habits can be transformed. I had a negative destructive self doubting mindset. However I also possessed an intense burning desire to change and most importantly I took major action. Follow your mindset training religiously. Sleep Sleep is crucial to recovery. My schedule allowed for maximum 5 and hours sleep. Having studied sleep strategies I turned my sleeping environment into a batcave(complete darkness, no electrical equipment ) and took 30 minutes to relax each night before sleep. You must train your body clock into a routine with a regular waking and sleep time. Body type/genetics My goal was to add an average of 2IBs of muscle per week which was ambitious even if a mesomorph (builds muscle easily). Being an extreme ectomorph (skinny, small boned, low muscle mass) While difficult, being an ectomorph just means that you must work harder and smarter to achieve your goal. I had to use my knowledge to design an intense muscle stimulating programme that would force my body to build muscle and also design the nutrition programme that would feed and recover my muscles fast enough. Staying motivated There was intense emotional intensity attached to my whys. By transforming my body and mindset my family and career would be majorly impacted. I took a before photo and carried a magazine cutout of my ideal body with me at all times and had copies in my diary and on my wall. I also trained when the gym was full and told everyone what I was going to achieve. I could not let them down. I was their role model. Family : I emphasised to them how important this project was to me both personally and professionally. It was happening with or without their support. Measuring Progress I used a skinfold callipers to measure my bodyfat and also took tape measurements to track my progress. Weight and BMI are the worst indicators of progress so dont use them. I also took weekly photos.

As the weeks passed by I was empowered by my results. I grew more confident and certain that my thought would become a reality. I was inspired by the energy of success and a growing sense of control over my body and mind. I was smashing all obstacles that threatened success. On the 3rd April my final measurements were : Bodyfat - 5% Muscle Gain : 26Ibs Fat Lost : 14 Ibs I had manifested my dream. I had a muscular sculpted body with a six pack. In July 2004 I was announced as the Irish Body For Life Champion and my process of manifestation was complete. This process of manifestation changed my life forever and was pivotal to my professional success and overall happiness since. I possessed high self esteem, confidence and a positive self image which had been missing up to that point. I felt sexy, attractive and content having lost the shackles of my subconscious!! Most importantly I finally loved myself. I believed myself worthy of being considered a role model. I was a product of MY PRODUCT. My name and brand now had added credibility and respect. I was now able to serve others to transform their lives as I had done with my own. I could truly empathise with and inspire those who desired similar mental and physical transformations. My success mindset was born. My mindset from then on was that anything was possible. I finally realised that all limitations are self imposed by our thoughts. We are masters of our own destiny. Our decisions, actions and thoughts shape our future. Since 2004 I have lived life by design. Once you attach belief to your thoughts and take action you will manifest them into your reality. Since 2004 I owned and managed a chain of fitness centres in Ireland with 1 million annual turnover and now travel around the globe spreading my message through events and running bootcamps. I am living my mission motivating, inspiring and educating people worldwide to regain control over their body, mind and ultimately lives and start turning their dreams into reality. I feel truly blessed and I express gratitude daily for my life and family and for taking that first crucial step on November 14th 2003.
