Kauffman We have almost no information on this author, and the fact that we dont even know his first name makes us even consider the possibility of C.S. Kauffman actually being somebody elses penname, since that was a very widespread practice among gospel hymn writers. We know he was alive by the end of the 19th century, when several songs attributed to him were published. If in 1900 he published Keep in Touch with Jesus, he was at least 20 y.o., so he could have been born in 1880. If we estimate he might be at most 90 y.o. when he published that hymn in 1900, and his birth year would have been as early as 1810. If he was 20 in 1900, and died at 90, he would have died in 1970. If he was 90 in 1900, he would have died around 1910. So, to leave a margin, he could have lived anywhere between 1800 and 1980 a 180-year span, considering the very little information we have on this hymn-writer.
