Historical Heroes: Csar Chvez

Csar Chvez was born in Arizona in 1923. When his family lost their farm
during the Great Depression, they packed up their things and began moving from farm to farm, looking for whatever work they could find. Csar was forced to quit school after eighth grade and work to support the family. When he grew up, Chvez decided to help other farm workers like himself. He helped found the United Farm Workers, a union that fought for safe working conditions and better wages. In 1988, Chvez completed a 36-day fast in protest of the dangerous and difficult work conditions on the farms.
