Imagine that you

are walking down


the street late at
night in a small US
town in 1865.
KU KLUX KLAN
The Ku Klux Klan was
founded at the end of the
United States Civil War to
repress the rights and
freedoms of African
Americans, Jewish and
Catholic immigrants from
Europe.

Even after 150 years, it is


still an active, domestic
terrorist organization.
The history 
After the Civil War, in 1865,
slavery was abolished, the
black population received
freedom and constitutional
rights.

But there remained a lot of


people unhappy with the
liberation of slaves. This was
the reason for the emergence
of a new anti-Black
organization.
The first KKK was founded in 1865 in the
small town of Pjlaski, located in the state
of Tennessee, by six former soldiers from
Confederate Army.

KKK today

Today the KKK's estimated size is at least


29 separate groups currently active in the
United States.
Interesting facts:
The clan sent its victims orange or melon
grains, oak branches. This meant that "he is
next", the Klansmen will soon come after him.

economic autonomy, like merchants who
purchased cotton from black farmers,
were also threatened, beaten, and killed.

The name of the KKK was adopted from


the Greek word “kuklus” which means
“circle”.

In the late 1930's/40's the Klan was


financed by Nazi Germany.
