MFL @ EGA
We’ve had some excellent discussions
during our first Spanish lessons at
Evelyn Grace Academy about just how
important it is to learn a modern for-
eign language (MFL)! We found out
that over 400 million people speak
Spanish world-
wide and
we de-
cided
that knowing, understand-
ing and being able to use a
foreign language is a key ingredient of
being 100% successful at EGA. In the
extended school timetable, we also
learn Mandarin Chinese, which is spoken
by approximately 1.2 billion people!
Who learns a language
and why?
ANYONE can!
A long time ago, only the ‘privileged’
learned foreign languages…
Language learning is relevant to ALL
students from ALL backgrounds if
we want to give our children a
brighter and broader future with
more options!
You never know when you may need
your skills!
ALL of our children are responding well
to their language studies!!!
In Further and Higher 2 for 1
Education,
foreign languages go with just about any other
subject and are becoming more and more
popular. With language study throughout
secondary education, your child has a head
start!
 At EGA we aim to make learning a
modern foreign language
stimulating, engaging and
interesting!
 We learn about languages and the
cultures of the people who speak
them actively through song and
music, movement, sign language,
role-play and ICT.
 We also understand that we really
need to understand how languages
work if we want to use them in the
real world and do very well in our

 Our positive learning culture has
already resulted in children
speaking both Spanish and
Mandarin around the school AND
going home to teach their families
what they have learned so far!
