2.5.2 HSDPA
BTS3812E supports high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA). The HSDPA technology is a modulation and demodulation algorithm put forward in 3GPP R5 for asymmetrical uplink/downlink data service transmission. It plays an important role in
Huawei Technologies Proprietary 2-2
increasing downlink capacity and data service rate. The peak data rate can be 14.4 Mbps/cell.
2.6 Installation
BTS3812E features easy installation and supports:
z z z z z z z
Frontal accessibility of BTS3812E cabinet cabling Installation against wall Back-to-back installation Side-by-side installation Smaller floor space Frontal accessibility of O&M Before delivery, BTS3812E cabinet is ready for use, and all internal cables of cabinet are installed and debugged to meet customers requirements. The field installation personnel only need to fix the cabinet, insert the boards, install the external cables and download the data configuration file. Easy and fast BTS3812E software and hardware installation leads to much shorter installation time and faster network rollout.
2.7 Evolution
BTS3812E can meet the requirements in smooth upgrade and capacity expansion from the following aspects.
To support MBMS, you only need to upgrade the software loaded to BTS3812E. To support HSUPA, you only need to add a HSUPA-supportive UL processing board or replace the existing board with such a board, and then upgrade the software loaded to BTS3812E.
MBMS: It is a point-to-multipoint technology introduced to WCDMA R6 release. This technology can save resources over the air interface by broadcasting multimedia services to the UEs of a cell over common channels or by sending multicast services subscribed by UEs of a cell.
HSUPA: It is a technology introduced to WCDMA R6 release, serving as a means to enhance UL packet service processing capability. Specific techniques related to HSUPA include 2ms frame, HARQ, and NodeB scheduling. HSUPA can enhance
Huawei Technologies Proprietary 2-3
system capacity by 50% to 70% and reduce time delay in packet services by 20% to 55%. A single subscriber can enhance service rate by 50%.
Later versions of BTS3812E can be enhanced by some technologies, including: Smart antenna (SA): It performs formation and shaping for the received and transmitted beams of the NodeB according to the spatial characteristics of signal transmission and the digital signal processing technology. It can reduce interference, multiply capacity, broaden coverage, enhance communication quality and decrease costs of operators.
Multi-user detection (MUD): Perform combined detection for multiple users to limit the multiple access interference. It is a good solution to the near-far problem. The technology lowers the requirements for power control precision, and therefore can make better use of the spectrum resources and enhance system capacity and coverage.
Figure 3-2 shows a BTS3812E cabinet under full configuration. A single BTS3812E cabinet can support up to 12 cells.

Near end maintenance: The maintenance engineer connects an LMT to BTS3812E through a network cable and logs in to the NodeB to perform maintenance.
Far end maintenance: BTS3812E is generally seated in an unattended room. The maintenance engineer logs in to BTS3812E over the IPoA channel to perform maintenance on the NodeB through LMT or M2000.
Automatic setup of default maintenance channel: When no data configuration file is loaded to NodeB, the default IPoA maintenance channel can be automatically set up between RNC and NodeB. Generally, BTS3812E only has software loaded rather than data configuration file after hardware installation. With this function, the maintenance personnel can load data and programs to the NodeB at the far end. The automatic setup function of default maintenance channel decreases the operation and maintenance costs and enhances network maintainability and maintenance quality.
I. Security Management
BTS3812E provides powerful security management functions to effectively manage and control the system by authorizing maintenance engineers with layered operation rights.
For online data configuration, the modified data takes effect at once. For offline data configuration, the modified data takes effect only after the reset of NodeB.
Supporting monitoring or querying of board operation status so that customers can know system operation timely. Automatic backup of maintenance logs. Chapter 6 Reliability
6.1 System Reliability
BTS3812E is designed after overall analysis on system reliability. BTS3812E adopts the following methods to enhance system maintainability:
z z z z z
Active/standby mode load-sharing Redundant configuration Optimized fault detection of boards and system Optimized fault separation
I. Redundancy
Baseband boards (HULP and HDLP) adopt the resource pool architecture and work in N+1 backup mode. Failure in part of the boards does not affect normal operation of the NodeB. In addition, baseband processing capability is not affected when redundant boards are configured. The Iub interface boards can work in load-sharing mode. When a service link is broken and the transmission capability deteriorates, the overloaded or faulty board can transfer partial or all load to other available boards or links.
Chapter 6 Reliability
The 48V input power supply is kept under detection. When the power voltage is too low or too high, BTS3812E reports an alarm. The power supply has the lightning protection function and the protection function against voltage dips and sags. BTS3812E provides the power failure protection for programs and data. The boards provide over-voltage, overcurrent and reverse-polarity-connection protection.

Chapter 8 Installation
Chapter 8 Installation
BTS3812E features easy installation. BTS3812E can be placed against a wall, side by side, or back to back. Therefore, less floor space is required. Before delivery, all internal cabling of the NodeB is installed and debugged to meet customers requirements. The field installation personnel only need to fix the cabinet, insert the boards, install the external cables and download the data configuration file. BTS3812E also facilitates equipment maintenance and future expansion. In the NodeB, the cables supports frontal accessibility, specifically, cables connecting BTS3812E baseband subrack and MTRU and those between MTRUs and MAFUs. The external cables of BTS3812E are easy to install. Ports for the antenna jumpers, power cables, transmission cables, and signal cables are all routed at the top of the cabinet with corresponding silk-screens. Automatic setup of default maintenance channel is supported. When no data configuration file is loaded to NodeB, the default IPoA maintenance channel can be automatically set up between RNC and NodeB. BTS3812E features easier and faster installation of both software and hardware. This ensures faster network deployment and rollout.
