1 Overview
1.1 Introduction
This document provides a high level description of ZTE ZXSDR R8892N M8090
(hereinafter referred to as ‘R8892N’). It is a new compact distributed remote radio unit
(RRU) with ultra broadband of band 8 &20, high output power and low power
consumption. Based on ZTE common software defined radio (SDR) platform, R8892N
works in GSM/UMTS/LTE/NB-IoT single mode or multi-mode at the two frequency bands.
The volume of R8892N is about 20L, and its weight is 23kg.
In this document, G is short for GSM, U is short for UMTS, L is short for FDD LTE, and I
is short for NB-IoT.
Note: To be compliant with Radio Equipment Directive (RED) of European Union, this
device is restricted to use and put into service due to the need for a spectrum license
and/or the conditions attached to authorization for the use of frequencies within all
European Union countries (BE/BG/CZ/DK/DE/EE/IE/EL/ES/FR/HR/IT/CY/LV/LT/LU/HU/
MT/NL/AT/PL/PT/RO/SI/SK/FI/SE/UK).
1.2 Benefits
R8892N is based on ZTE dual-band technology. It supports band 8 & 20 in one box,
reducing module number and saving installation room to deploy network both in
band 8 & 20 for operators.
Multi-Mode RRU
R8892N provides four antenna ports for different scenarios. With four antenna ports,
the electrical antenna down tilt of band 8 & band 20 can be configured separately.
Remote Radio Unit (RRU) R8892N and Baseband Unit (BBU) make up a distributed
macro base station. R8892N, with dual-band, high output power and compact dimension,
is suitable for band 8 & 20 dual-band network deployment.
2 Product Architecture
Transceiver (TRX)
Power Amplifiers(PA)
2.2.1 TRX
Capture of reference clock signal from baseband unit and distribution of clock signal
to other units;
Interface provision, including one DB15 port for dry contact, local debugging or
AISG connection through different kind of cables, 2 CPRI interfaces and AISG for
electrical tilt antenna;
Reset function.
2.2.2 DFL
2.2.3 PA
2.2.4 PWR
2.3 Functionality
R8892N is the remote radio unit of distributed base station. The signal is transmitted
/received through R8892N to/from base band processing unit for further processing via
standard CPRI interface.
By applying the distributed system, the feeder loss will be eliminated when the radio unit
is positioned close to the antenna. The coverage is enlarged with this solution.
Supports 2T2R for band 8 and 2T2R for band 20 in one box which can optimize
spectrum efficiency greatly and improve network uplink performance
Supports no effects on the running of BBU and the other R8892Ns connected to the
BBU in case of failure
3 Technical Specifications
R8892N is a new compact RRU, 20L in dimension and 23kg in weight (without
sunshield).

Note: 1. when “ZGO-04-01-011 Power Boost for 8PSK” is applied in GSM mode, the TOC output
power achieves the same in 8PSK modulation as in GMSK. 2. The TOC here means the max
capability of the hardware. The specific TOC output power is limited by the license.
3.2.3 Capacity

NOTE: 1. The LTE cell supports 2T2R/2T4R. 2. The NB-IoT carrier supports 1T2R by default. 3. A
GI carrier means a GSM TRX or a NB-IoT 1T2R carrier. When the NB-IoT carrier supports 1T2R,
NB-IoT 1T2R carriers: GSM TRXs=1:1. When the NB-IoT carrier supports 2T2R, NB-IoT 2T2R

Item Specification
What’s more, R8892N supports integrated lightning protection module for DC power
supply.
Power consumption of R8892N M8090 depends on its configuration. The value is given
in the table below.

Consumption
According to different antenna connection applications, there are two sub types of
antenna ports design in R8892N M8090, including BAA and BAE.
For BAA, ANT1 & ANT2 support Tx/Rx in DD band, and ANT3 & 4 support Tx/Rx in 900
MHz, demonstrated below.
For BAE, ANT1 & ANT4 support Tx/Rx in DD &900MHz band, demonstrated below.
NSBT is embedded in ANT1.
The external interfaces of the R8892N are located at the bottom and on the front side of
the chassis.
For a description of the external interfaces at the bottom of the R8892N chassis, please
refer to Table 3- 8.
