Editorial: The Heart of Success

Magnus would like to dedicate this article to the new batch of CBS graduates graduates, and to their loving and supportive parents. It is of great honor and pride for the college to once again be able to produce smart, competent, and upright graduates. Graduation connotes several meanings depe depending nding on how students view it from f their own un understandings derstandings and beliefs. Some may say that it is a tool or a key to open the threshold to a wider opportunity, and other might conclude that it is just another chapter of a more complicated and risky life. But either way, one must keep in mind that, thoug though the formal schooling is over, the education and learning must continue forever. As Rancho of 3 Idiots once said, Pursue for excellence, success will chase you. Graduation symbolizes the moment of release from the academe world, yet is also the start o of a more competitive and challenging ing realm, the workplace the new battlefield. In this conquest, graduates will surely be equipped and armored with lifelessons and experiences. All the hardships and undertakings that they have gone through college will be their ultimate shield in the battle of life, while their will to succeed will be their powerful sword. Above all, their faith aith in God would be their greatest amulet to succeed. One must remember the words of Virus (One of the characters in 3 Idiots), Life L begins with murder. If you dont compete, youll die. One cannot succeed if his fears are greater than his desires. One must realize that, at some point, everybody is destined to experience failures, but that doesnt mean losing the chance to succeed. Like what Winston Churchill quoted, Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts. One must not let rejections and failures keep him from playing the game. Never giving up, believing in ones dreams, dre and having faith in Godthose those are the ingredients of the Heart of Success.

-NEWSMACAPUGAY, THE NEW MARKETING CHAIRMAN

By: Geraldine L. Bondoc Through the Deans recommendation and approval of the University President, Mr. Krist Mark Q. Macapugay, MBA, CB, the Best Teacher for first semester of the Academic Year 2012-2013, was promoted as the new Chairperson for Marketing in the College of Business Studies effective January 01, 2013, replacing Mr. Joseph Ian Guintu, who is now the Director for Admission and Testing. He has passion for the craft and is fond of conducting make-up classes. Mr. Macapugay, who is now on his 3rd month of service, is one of the leaders of the strict implementation on wearing of uniform and also the person behind the establishment of the CBS Outreach Ministry. His other plans for the college are to: have more business related seminars for the students, have an academic team that would help the lower years in their studies, have activities that would help students balance their life, and hopefully, have a qualifying exam for the incoming third year students. "I am always willing to take challenges. This is an opportunity for me to grow more and develop my personality in different aspects. I also need to apply fairness within the work and be firm with my decisions. stressed Mr. Macapugay.

Undeniably, handling such responsibility is not just an easy and simple job. Tough responsibilities and priorities are coming on his way.

CBS GOES SOCIAL

By: Allen Bernardo The College of Business Studies finally established its own Outreach Ministry that outlines one of the Colleges visions, which is to promote social responsibility not just inside the campus but also extending arms for others. A dream comes true for the college as a whole. Its not just about giving high quality education but also extending our arms to those unfortunate people. Mr. Krist Mark Macapugay said, the chair for Marketing and the assigned adviser for the organization together with Mrs. Regina De Jesus, one of the CBS faculty members. At present, there are approximately more than 100 members who volunteered to be part of the organization from different year levels. Chrisanne Santos, from Marketing 3D, was elected as the President together with her colleagues: Allen Bernardo, Vice President for Internal Affairs; Gerald Pangan, Vice President for External Affairs; Danita Mateo, Secretary; Genah Arguelles, Treasurer; Kristine Nicole Galura, Auditor; Doris Sariga, PRO; John Luwie Baluyut, Jenny Quiambao, Regina Raper, and Rachel Pille, Coordinators. The first agenda is to raise funds through the program: A Bottle a Day will help the Children of Today with the purpose of not just cleaning the environment and the college but also collecting plastic bottles to generate income that will be used to start the upcoming activities of the ministry. It also collects relief goods, used clothes, donations, and voluntary contributions. Ms. Santos, the president of the CBS Outreach Ministry, already had her first outdoor visit in Childrens Joy Foundation, CSFP. The Bahay Pag-Ibig, a Home for the Aged, at Holy Angel Village, CSFP, is the Ministrys next target to help. It was indeed a dream come true to be able to establish social awareness to the students entailing social responsibility--another great achievement for the college.

By: Jhordan Pangilinan (adapted from the American reality show). It was formally started with a ritual prayer followed by the announcing of the rules and instructions for the participants. There were five gladiatorial teams who joined and faced the challenges of the game. On the 14th day of February, 2013, another challenging activity for the CBS students as well as for teachers was held as part of annual celebration of the BA Days--the Amazing race CBS Edition These were the White Team (Marketing 2A) with Sir Raymond Timog; the Yellow Team (Marketing 2B) with Maam Cristal Umali; the Green Team (Marketing 2C) with Maam Lucia Basco; Red Team (Marketing 2D) with Sir Dennis Fajarito; and the Black Team (Marketing 2E) with Maam Alexis Awat. CBS BATTLE OF THE BRAINS

By: Jenny Ann F. Santos It was a tough battle between the five (5) sections who were fortunate to move forward in the final round of Quiz Bowl that was held last February 14, 2013 at CBS Building 1 Room 102 facilitated by Mr. Carreon and Mr. Adonis David who raised different levels of question to test the extent of the knowledge of the participants. The said activity was a part the annual celebration of CBS days. At first, it was participated by 24 sections from different year levels for the elimination round held last February 13, 2013, a day before the final round. The purpose of the activity was not just to test the students intellectual ability, but also their coordination as a team. Each team consisted 4 representatives from every section. They were required to answer the written questions consisting different levels: easy, moderate, and difficult, each with different corresponding points. After the contest, Mr. Carreon and Mr. Adonis David, with the help of Arlu Alfonso, tabulated the scores. All representatives were yearning to be a part of the final round but with those 24 sections, only five (5) sections were made to move ahead for the final round. Among them are Marketing 1A, 1E, 1G, 2F, and 3B. On the final round, selected sections were eager to bring home the bacon so they squeezed their brains to answer the given questions. It was a close fight between them but still end up with a unanimous score. Marketing 1A got the spot of 1st place, Marketing 1E for the 2nd place, and Marketing 3B for the 3rd place.

SUCCESSFUL TRADE FAIR ON VALENTINES DAY

By: Carissa Cortez February 14, 2013- It is supposed to be dating, flowers, and chocolates, but instead, the third year Marketing students in DHVTSU turned out to be busy with the Trade Fair where they sell the products that they created in their respective marketing plans. The Trade Fair, which was under the supervision of Ms. Rowina Twano, was one of the many activities of BA Days. There were 7 sections in the junior level and each one of the sections was assigned to sell their unique products during the Trade Fair. Each of them has their own post where they put up their tents in order to have a shelter and to cover their selves from the intense heat of the sun.

-NEWSIn every section, the class was divided into six groups. That was why in every tent, different varieties of goods were sold. There were beverages such as shakes, juices, and soda. Pastries such as cupcakes and cookies, and street foods such as siomai, tacos, fries, fishball, were also offered during the trade fair. There were also basic commodities like liquid dishwashing soaps, clothes such as shorts and tee shirts. Kikay and Fashionista students also raid the trade fair because the other third year Marketing students were selling accessories such as key chains, earrings, and necklaces that contained cute and eye catching designs and colors. The Trade Fair was truly successful and lots of 3rd year students gained profit. And it was because of the products that each of their creative minds made. They innovated and produced products that had different twists which was the reason why they caught the attention of their buyers.

-FEATUREGRADUATION THE DAY OF REALIZATION

By: Geraldine L. Bondoc

Graduation The final moment of judgment, the foundation of the future, and the end of struggle. Our lives freeze for an instant to savor the victory we had achieved. The experiences we had before this memorable event vanishes and turns into droplets of honey. The contentment of having accomplished something fills our hearts as we receive our diplomas on stage. It is finally the culmination of all the hardships and sacrifices we have endured through the whole learning process. But, graduation is not the end. It is only the beginning. Graduation opens another chapter in our lives. A chapter full of surprises and unexpected turns. Each leaf in our lifes little book comes to existence as we continue discovering and attempting new things. It is full of stories on how we grew to become who we are in the present. As this book thickens, the more we learn to strive to be the best. These pages contain meaningful information about ourselves that we could edit. As authors, it is our responsibility to create happier chapters and remarkable ends. Our fulfillment is not only ours, thus, it is also the pride and joy of our dear parents. Our fathers and mothers consider us as their own trophies. The honor they received after graduating from the very complicated course of parenthood. Our commencement exercise is what our parents waited for so long. It is not only our dream: it is our familys dream too. Graduation is not really about the right shoes to wear, the proper make-up to put on, the design of our dresses, or the long inspirational speech to deliver. It is something deeper. It is an entrance towards a brighter life, an escalator that brings you to the top and an exit from the tumultuous past. Graduation is indeed a beginning, a beginning with an end in mind. It means a start in planning our future. In every preparation, there always comes a goal that we are hoping to achieve. Some may call it the finish line, while others may call it the success door. One thing is for certain: in each new start, there comes a rewarding end.

-FEATURELEVELS OF LOVE
By Aireen Fernando

Perhaps love is the most wonderful thing here on Earth. Remember the first time you fell in love? Its like magic! You go crazy just to make the person you love happy. Just a smile on his/her face is enough to sustain you the whole day. Love conquers all. Love never fails, never gives up, and never runs out. Never Fails. Never Gives Up and It Never Runs Out. So now, lets begin the journey of love; the journey of a fairytale. The Infatuation Stage - Infatuation is a feeling. It is just the love of emotion. It is actually a physical attraction. You dont fully know the person yet you are attracted to him/her by his/her physical appearance. Its like when you have a crush. You tend to like that person because shes beautiful or hes he handsome. The Understanding Stage or The Getting to Know Each Other Stage - In this stage, you get to sleep late at night because of your nonstop conversations on phone. The Mutual Understanding Stage wherein you tend talk about your families or what you like or dislike. The Stage of Disturbances - This stage usually forces its way into a happy romance after a few months of blissful courting. The Opinion Maker - In this stage, both of you create opinions about each other. As the months pass by, both of you know what to expect from each other, and you make an assumption about your partners commitment towards the relationship. You begin to expect some surprises from each other. Sometimes, you will feel great when he/she shows effort more than what you expect or you will feel fe disappointed when he/she she doesn doesnt accomplish what you are expecting him/her to do. The Molding Stage - You have your own expectations from an ideal partner. In this stage, st both of you try hard to mold ld each other to fit your own wants in a perfect partner. This stage is about give and take, and both partners constantly try to subtly convince each other to change their behavior towards the relationship. This could be a stepping stone ne or a stumbling block in a relationship. It can make or break it. A proper attitude and approach is needed here. The Happy Stage - If the relationship survives past the molding stage, both of you may have changed equally for each other and understood ea each ch others expectations. In this stage, the relationship cruises along perfectly and both of you may be blissfully happy with each other; the perfect match, the perfect couple, the stage of strong attachment, the need for him/her every day. The Stage of Doubts - Its been several years since both of you have been in a relationship with each other. And somewhere along the way, doubts start to creep in. The intensity of the doubts depend on how happy both of you are in the relationship. You sta start rt to compare your relationship with others. You start to doubt if youre really happy. The Sexual Exploration or Bust Stage - The stage of Romance. In this stage you have to have a clear understanding about your relationship. How would you know if youve gone too far and if what youre doing is still right? You must know your limitations. Ask yourself, if you can no longer do it in front of your parents, then you must not do it at all. The Stage of a Complete Trust - This is the happy stage when both of you u love each other and trust each other completely. Both of you know the direction of the relationship and both of you are completely happy with each other and find it easy to predict each others behavior and decisions but with stability in love.

Honor God with your relationship. That is the greatest treasure and value of a relationship. Always do what is right rather than what is acceptable, because what is acceptable may not always be right. But what is right will later on be accepted. Enjoy your relationship. Always put God in the center and for sure, yours will be the greatest love story ever.

-LITERARY GEMSGEMSMY FIRSTFIRST-LAST LOVE By: Geraldine L. Bondoc I think, Im starting to fall once more, Fall for the same man I loved befor before. I sense, Im beginning to dream once again, Dream about the two of us together back then. I still remember that cold Wednesday night, We parted ways and started to get things right. It was the only choice I had that minute, Since then, I hopelessly reg regretted it. But somehow, I managed to ignore my love for you, That was the day when I killed my heart too. I tried my best to learn to breathe without you, Even though I know its impossible for me to do so. Today, from lovers, were back to being friends, Im thankful because I know our friendship never ends. About the love we had last time, Yours had faded, but not mine. And now that were getting close like we used to, What is this, Im not certain if its true. I feel this tiny bit of joy when Im with you, Looks like all of a sudden Im missing you.
