Subject: Acceptance of Aadhaar Letter/Card as Proof of Identity and Proof of Address for Passport Application The Ministry of External Affairs has decided and accordingly advised all Passport Issuing Authorities to accept Aadhaar Letter/Card as proof of address (PoA) and Photo identity (PoI) in conjunction with any other prescribed documents for proof of address/identity for the purpose of passport application. This is further clarified that the acknowledgement receipt issued by the UID authorities while applying for Aadhaar card does not constitute Aadhaar Letter/Card. An Aadhaar Letter/Card contains 12 digits Aadhaar No., which would only be accepted as PoI and PoA by Passport Issuance Authorities (PIAs). A sample copy of Aadhaar Letter/Card is enclosed for reference.
