What is PeerBlock?

The short version is: PeerBlock blocks "known bad" computers from accessing your s, and vice versa. Depending on the lists you have it set up to use, you can blo ck governments, corporations, machines flagged for anti-p2p activites, even enti re countries! Whether you're sharing files with Bittorrent or just surfing the w eb, PeerBlock can help protect you from the bad guys. PeerBlock is a type of program known as an "IP Blocker". IP-addresses are used t o identify a computer whenever it connects to the internet. PeerBlock monitors e ach connection your computer tries to make with another one - and each connectio n other computers try to make with you - and then compares the other computer's IP address against a list of "known bad" IP addresses to see whether it should l et this connection go through or not. PeerBlock is an open source IP filtering application partially based on the Peer Guardian code. It is designed to prevent your computer from making undesirable c onnections, such as to machines flagged for anti p2p activities, corporations, g overnments, etc. This can significantly decrease your chances of being detected when downloading from p2p or Torrent networks, or of contracting malware/spyware from known sources. PeerBlock is available in portable form and works with all versions of Windows (including Windows XP, Vista, 7).
