How and Why Sikhism Embraces World Religions and Faiths Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sufis, and Others

Gurbani, the Teachings of Sikhism in Shri Guru Granth Sahib, the Holy Book, the Living Guru in the Punjabi language has been firstly from Sheikh Farid Ji and many others who came before Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Shri Guru Nanak Dev called all as the Gurbani and Fifth Guru Nanak, Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Compiled it in the Aadi Granth Shahib....

"Sufi saints like Khwaja Qutub-Ud-Din Bakhtiar Kaki, who was a Syed of Jaffri Hussaini tribe, were very famous.

Khwaja Bakhtiar Kaki was Born around 1150 CE and studied under Abu Hafiz, a celebrated doctor of Ush, he went to Ajmer and became a disciple of Khwaja Moin-ud-Din Chishti. In due time he proceeded to Delhi where Baba Farid met him and became his disciple. Emperor Sultan Shams-ud-Din Iltutmish was also his disciple. He died in CE 1235 and was buried in Delhi, where his tomb is held in devout reverence by pious Hindus and Muslims. His descendants are called Chishtis from the tribe of his priest. - Makhazan-ul-Tawarikh.

Genealogy of Baba Sheikh Farid ji is given in the Jawahir-e-Faridi (The gems of Farid), preserved at the shrine of Pak Pattan, by Ali Asghar of Bahadal, a town near Sirhind. Baba Sheikh Farid ji descended from Farrukh Shah, who was king of Kabul and kings of Ghazni and other states were subject to him. Baba Farid ji's Great Grandfather was son of Farrukh Shah, the emperor of Kabul. During that time, Baba Farids Great Grandfather was killed when Halaku, the grandson of Chengez Khan invaded Kabul. He killed several princes and learned men, including several of Baba Farids ancestors. Baba Farids Grandfather Shaikh Shaib abandoned their country and took refuge in the Punjab in CE 1125. The Qazi of Kasur who was acquainted with the high position Shaikh Shaib had held there, treated him and his relatives with great respect and hospitality. After some time Shaikh

Shaib proceeded to Multan where he deemed he should be less exposed to worldly influences or the temptings of ambition. He took his abode in Kothiwal, now known as Chawali Mushaikh, close to Dipalpur. He established in Kothiwal, a private college for religious instruction and attracted much attention. His eldest son Jamal-ud-din married Bibi Miriam, daughter of Syed Muhammad Abdula Shah - a descendant of Ali. Bibi Miriam had three sons, Khwaja Aziz-ud-din, Farid-ud- Din Masaud (Baba Farid) and Khwaja Najib-ud-din, and one daughter Khatun Jamila. He was the disciple and khalifa (spiritual successor) of Moinuddin Chishti as head of the Chishti Order. His most famous disciple and spiritual successor was Baba Fareed. He is recognised as the first major poet of the Punjabi language. In addition Baba Farid is considered one of the holiest and pivotal saints of the Punjab region; today he is revered among both Muslims and Sikhs." Who is a Sikh Bhagat: The term Bhagat refers to a Holy Person who leads a life of spirituality and dedication to God. A Bhagat is an Eastern equivalent to a Christian Saint, a Sant. The word Bhagat comes from the Sanskrit word Bhakti, which means devotion, love etc.

Throughout the history of India there have been saints and thinkers who were dissatisfied with the superstitions and the thousands of the religious vagaries of Hinduism. They gradually evolved a belief in one God and preceded Guru Nanak as does the dawn before sunrise.

The teachings of these Bhagats, whose words and teachings were included in the Holy Granth by Guru Arjan Dev are given the same prominence in the SGGS, the Sikh Holy Book as the teaching of the Ten Sikh Gurus. Guru Arjan Dev Ji selected the writings of both Hindus and Muslims with equal impartiality, according to their suitability of his purpose and religious reformation that was Sikhism.

Also: "Punjabi emerged as an independent language in the 11th century. The first traces of Punjabi can be found in the works of the Nath yogis Gorakshanath and Charpatnath in the 9th and 10th century. The Punjabi literary tradition is popularly seen to commence with Fariduddin Ganjshakar (Baba Farid) (11731266), many ancient Sufi Muslim and later Guru Nanak Dev, the first Guru of Sikhism. The early Punjabi literature was principally spiritual in nature and has had a very rich oral tradition. The poetry written by Sufi saints has been the folklore of the Punjab and is still sung with great love in any part of Punjab." "Gurmukhi has been adapted to write other languages, such as Braj Bhasha, Khariboli (and other Hindustani dialects), Sanskrit and Sindhi.[2] Gurmukhi is the ecclesiastical script of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the holy book of the Sikhs." Well, I am not a preacher but a researcher and educator in the Comparative Religious and Other

Studies...

"Many world renowned scholars have recognised the Siri Guru Granth as a supreme treasure for all of mankind. It is accepted by all that the Granth is the true and permanent spiritual guide of the Sikhs; but it has not as yet been generally recognised that it is also a true spiritual guide for all of humanity. Guru Granth Sahib transcends creed and caste, cant and convention. It does not belong to the Sikhs alone.

Considering Islam in particular, perhaps no other historical Islamic verse holds such strong contempt for Muslims who fail to carry out the daily Nimaz as can be attributed to Hazrat Baba Sheikh Farid as recorded in the Shri Guru Granth Sahib. Baba Farid ji was a Muslim whose many verses are preserved only in the holy Granth and cannot be found elsewhere. He was an enlightened soul from the Almighty Lord who left a common message for everyone to learn from. ..." "In 1588, he planned to build a temple in the centre of the holy tank called Amritsar or the pool of nectar. As the temple was to be thrown open to people of all castes, creeds and climes, he invited Mian Mir to lay the foundation stone of the Harmandir Sahib. He came to the city of Amritsar wearing a religious mendicant's long cloak made up of patches of coarse wool and a cone-shaped cap, with a rose flower on top.

Mian Mir was given one of the warm welcomes for which Guru Arjan was famous. The two holy men embraced each other in sincere love and regard. The purpose of the temple was disclosed to the Sufi saint. Mian Mir was delighted at the fine objectives the Guru had in mind. The foundation-stone was laid. Hymns were sung in praise of God and sweets were distributed among the audience. "Guru Nanak and Mardana were both born and raised in the same village. The Miharban Janam Sakhi describes the latter, who was ten years senior in age, as the Guru's companion since his childhood days and as one who sang to him songs from Kabir, Trilochan, Ravidas, Dhanna and Bern. According to Ratan Singh Bhangu, Prachin Panth Prakash, Guru Nanak as a small boy gave Mardana a string instrument improvised from reeds to play on while he sang the hymns." "Baba Jaani Shah was a devotee of sixth Guru, Guru Har Gobind who was in the search of God but could not find Him anywhere; although he had looked far and wide. I must add here that I have been working and doing research work on World Peace with the Charitable Trust, Bhai Daya Singh Charitable Trust at Jarg Near Khanna (Ludhiana). Its branch of Rara Sahib that believes in the World Peace with the Following Message based on the Indian Divine Wisdom:

"Why are you so engrossed in worries? Why are you afraid of some one? Who may kill you? The soul is immortal; it neither dies nor takes birth.

The present is here and now, the past is irrecoverable and the future will be good. Don't fret over the past and don't be worried about the future. The present is going on.

Why do you cry? What did you lose? When you were born, what did you bring along, which has been lost? What did you produce which has been perished? It is here that you gained and it is here that you lose. The man comes to; and goes from world, empty handed.

What you own today was not yours yesterday and will not be yours tomorrow. It does not and will not belong to anyone. You consider it your own and rejoice. This happiness of possession leads you to utter grief.

Yours is this world. Start from where you feel to; stay where you desire and wind up where you want to. It has no beginning and no end. You don't fear anyone, but yourself. You are the fright and also the frightened.

Change is the truth of life. What you consider as death is life in reality. In a moment a multi-millionaire is turned pauper. Give up the feeling of possession, great & the mean; differentiation of friend & foe. Then all is yours and you for everyone. Your corporeal being is a product of air, water and fire and it merges into the same leaving behind neither blood nor bones. Still yours existence remains the same. Then ponder over what you are.

Wake up! and become the eternal sons of the Almighty. You are the great and unique manifestation of Nature's power. All the divine powers are possessed by you, like a tree hidden in the seed.

In fact you don't fear anybody; you don't have any worry, suspicion, pain or grief. You are His dear ones. Surrender yourself completely to Him.

Always, remember the "Waheguru" (God) to achieve salvation. Let your life be guided by the saying "Whatever God wills, is good". Be content with the will of God. Remember Him both in pleasure & pain." (With thanks from the source: http://www.bhorasahib.com/Atam%20updesh.htm) P.S.: Its a message for the soul that we all have. Thanks!

Well, you see I have done some research works based on the comparative religious, educational,

philosophical and other faculties of human knowledge and wisdom while sharing it universal treasure we have due to great contributors who remain ONE with nature. Sant Teja Singh Ji Bhore Wale from Rara Sahib visited Jarg Sahib meeting Sant Bhupinder Singh for the future projects. I must also add that I am not a preacher but scholar, educator and counselor kind of person.

So, we continue this discussion going while sharing the Peace for All works and projects. "Sultan-ul-Hind, Moinuddin Chishti (Urdu/Persian: ) was born in 1141 and died in 1230 CE. Also known as Gharb Nawz "Benefactor of the Poor" () , he is the most famous Sufi saint of the Chishti Order of the Indian Subcontinent. He introduced and established the order in South Asia. The initial spiritual chain or silsila of the Chishti order in India, comprising Moinuddin Chishti, Bakhtiyar Kaki, Baba Farid and Nizamuddin Auliya (each successive person being the disciple of the previous one), constitutes the great Sufi saints of Indian history." (With thanks from the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moinuddin_Chishti)

As we have discussed the Origin of Sikhism and Sufism goes back to ancient ages, as we also need to share it from the past: "Usman Harooni (526-617 AH) was an early day Sufi Saint, a successor to Shareef Zandani, fourteenth link in the Sufi Silsilah of Chishti Order, and the Master of Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti.

He was born Haroon, Iran around 526 Hijri

He died 617 Hijri.

Khwaja Usman Harooni was born in Haroon, which is in Iran. According to some, he was born in 526 AH (1131 AD) and according to others, he was born in 510 AH (1116 AD). He is also known by his nicknames as Abu Noor and Abu Mansur.

When he was rather young, he came in touch with an absorbed mystic (majzub) by the name of Chirk. This association with Chirk brought about a significant transformation in his life. As a result, the material world lost its charm for him and he decided to embrace a higher moral and spiritual life.

Khwaja Usman Harooni went to meet Hazrat Haji Sharif Zindani, a renowned mystic and saint of the Chishti Order, with a request to be enrolled as his spiritual disciple. Khwaja Haji Sharif Zindani found him to be a fit person and accepted the request, by placing a four-edged cap upon the head of Khwaja Usman Harooni.

He then told him that the four-edged cap implied the following four things:

First is the renunciation of this world;

Second is the renunciation of the world hereafter;

Third is the renunciation of the desires of the self;

Fourth is the renunciation of everything other than God.

By age of Descending of Gurbani has the beginning of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is from Sheikh Fareed (Farid) Ji, who was born about 300 years before Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Founder of Sikhism. Moreover, all the teachings from Sufi Bhagats or Saints like Bhagat Kabir Ji, Bhagat Bhikhan Ji, and all others from various religions, faiths, isms and sects in Indian Civilization and even some outside and thus the Sufism has been included as True Witness of Divine Wisdom that Sikhs, Muslism, Hindus, and others share while reading Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji: "In its early stages of development Sufism effectively referred to nothing more than the internalization of Islam.[27] According to one perspective, it is directly from the Qur'an, constantly recited, meditated, and experienced, that Sufism proceeded, in its origin and its development.[28] Others have held that Sufism is the strict emulation of the way of Muhammad, through which the heart's connection to the Divine is strengthened.[29]

From the traditional Sufi point of view, the esoteric teachings of Sufism were transmitted from Muhammad to those who had the capacity to acquire the direct experiential gnosis of God, which was passed on from teacher to student through the centuries. Some of this transmission is summarized in texts, but most is not. Important contributions in writing are attributed to Uwais al-Qarni, Harrm bin Hian, Hasan Basri and Sayid ibn al-Mussib, who are regarded as the first Sufis in the earliest

generations of Islam. Harith al-Muhasibi was the first one to write about moral psychology. Rabia Basri was a Sufi known for her love and passion for God, expressed through her poetry. Bayazid Bastami was among the first theorists of Sufism; he concerned himself with fan and baq, the state of annihilating the self in the presence of the divine, accompanied by clarity concerning worldly phenomena derived from that perspective..." (With thanks from the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sufism)

"His predecessors were Moinuddin Chishti, Bakhtiyar Kaki and Fariduddin Ganjshakar. In that sequence, they constitute the initial spiritual chain or silsila of the Chisti order, which is widely prevalent in India and Pakistan.

Nizamuddin Auliya, like his predecessors, stressed upon the element of love as a means of realisation of God. For him his love of God implied a love of humanity. His vision of the world was marked by a highly evolved sense of secularity and kindness.[2] It is claimed by the 14th century historiographer Ziauddin Barani that his influence on the Muslims of Delhi was such that a paradigm shift was effected in their outlook towards worldly matters. People began to be inclined towards mysticism and prayers and remaining aloof from the world.[3]....

Spiritual history: He was merely sixteen or seventeen years old when he first heard the name of Farduddn Ganjshakar, and feelings of love and respect arose in his heart right then. He narrates to his disciples that he never felt the same after hearing or even meeting any other sufi. The love kept increasing like a burning fire. If his classmates would like to have some work out of him they used to invoke the name of Bb Fard, and he never refused anything asked in his name. He didn't feel the same for anyone else in his entire lifetime. He became his disciple after completing his studies at the age of 20. He visited him thrice in his lifetime." (With thanks from the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nizamuddin_Auliya). One of the great disciple of Sheikh Farid Ji, Farduddn Ganjshakar was as also guru to Amir Khusro... we share about him too..

"He is regarded as the "father of qawwali" (the devotional music of the Sufis in the Indian subcontinent).[1][2] He is also credited with enriching Hindustani classical music by introducing Persian and Arabic elements in it, and was the originator of the khayal and tarana styles of music.[3] The invention of the tabla is also traditionally attributed to Amr Khusrow.[citation needed]

A musician and a scholar, Amir Khusrow was as prolific in tender lyrics as in highly involved prose and could easily emulate all styles of Persian poetry which had developed in medieval Persia, from Khqn's forceful qasidas to Nizami's khamsa. He used only 11 metrical schemes with 35 distinct divisions. The verse forms he has written in include Ghazal, Masnavi, Qata, Rubai, Do-Beti and Tarkibhand. His contribution to the development of the ghazal, hitherto little used in India, is particularly significant. ..." (With thanks from the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amir_Khusro) Sikhs respect Hindus and Muslims alike: "Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki (Urdu: ) was a renowned Muslim Sufi mystic, saint and scholar in the Chishti Order from Delhi, India. He was the disciple and khalifa (spiritual successor) of Moinuddin Chishti as head of the Chishti Order. His most famous disciple and spiritual successor was Baba Fareed." (With thanks from the source: http://www.khwajagharibnawaz.net/BabaQutub.htm)

Sikhism also respects Christians, Muslims, Hindus alike while saying they are true to the Divine and Spiritual Wisdom but the Intellectuals, whom we know preachers or people of bookish knowledge may not comprehend the essence of the Divine Wisdom: "

Do not say that the Vedas, the Bible and the Koran are false. Those who do not contemplate them are false. You say that the One Lord is in all, so why do you kill chickens? ||1|| O Mullah, tell me: is this God's Justice? Page 1350" (With thanks from the source: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Koran)

Sikhism also claims that the Indian Divine Wisdom of Hinduism blossoms forth if the others, the Christians, Muslims and thus all blossom form: "

The Simritees blossom forth, along with the Koran and the Bible... Page 1193, Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji" (With thanks from the source: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Koran)

Sufism came from countries near and around Iran, as its also known as Persia and thus also the language Persian: "Sufis have spanned several continents and cultures over a millennium, at first expressed through Arabic, then through Persian, Turkish and a dozen other languages." (With thanks from the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sufism) Modern views about Aryans (Iranians) in India: "The name of Iran ( ) is the Modern Persian derivative from the Proto-Iranian term Aryn,, meaning "Land of the Aryans", first attested in Zoroastrianism's Avesta tradition.[29][30][31][32] The term rn is found to refer to Iran in a 3rd century Sassanid inscription, and the Parthian inscription that accompanies it uses the Parthian term "aryn" in reference to Iranians." (With thanks from the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran)

How Iranian came to India as Sufis: "Usman Harooni (526-617 AH) was an early day Sufi Saint, a successor to Shareef Zandani, fourteenth link in the Sufi Silsilah of Chishti Order, and the Master of Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti.

He was born Haroon, Iran around 526 Hijri. Hazrat Usman Harroni visited India, during the rule of Sultan Altamish.

Death Khwaja Usman Harooni breathed his last on 5th of Shawaal in the year 617 AH (1220 AD). His blessings are still invoked by thousands of people belonging to every strata of society and every school of thought. While his tomb lies in Mecca, there is also a symbol of his strength and source of his blessings at the Usmani Chilla at Ajmer.

Message and teachings According to Khwaja Usman Harooni, a great man is one who is endowed with virtues like contentment, sincerity, self-abnegation, self-sacrifice and above all, spirit of renunciation. He said that the ego in a man was an enemy, as it did not allow him to think rationally, act wisely and live happily. He emphasised that unless a man loves human beings, it is impossible for him to love God.

His advice was simple and his message was as simple and that was "Live".

To exist is one thing but to LIVE another. To exist means to merely breathe, but to live means to keep the welfare of fellow beings uppermost in priority. To live a good life requires a serious effort on one's own part. No exterior agency, legislation or act can make the man a moral being. Inner discovery is very important.

To help his disciples live a better life, Khwaja Usman Harooni gave discourses at times to guide them towards a better path. Of his many teachings, prominent are:

* Once the Friend becomes your friend, the whole universe becomes yours. Then it is necessary that you should become unmindful of everything else except the Friend, should ever be with Him and should follow Him faithfully.

* According to him, the faithful is one who keeps three things dear to his heart: mendicancy, illness and death.

* It is best to not weep or wail in times of difficulty. In fact, according to the witness of Hazrat Abdullah Ansari, Holy Prophet Mohammed has laid down that the one who weeps and wails in times of trouble and tribulation invites the curse of God upon himself.

* The one who feeds the hungry is dear to God. God fulfills a thousand wants and frees such a person from hell-fire.

* He who gives food to a dervish becomes free from all sins." (With thanks from the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usman_Harooni). His main disciple is as well as many others who followed him including Sheikh Farid Ji: "Sultan-ul-Hind, Moinuddin Chishti (Urdu/Persian: ) was born in 1141 and died in 1230 CE.

While mentioning Sufi Bhagats or the Fakirs, we notice that there were also kings and queens or the

emperors. One of the main ones, whom we can include is Sultan Shahb-ud-Din Muhammad Ghori: "Journey to India: Mu'nuddn Chisht turned towards India, reputedly after a dream in which Prophet Muhammad blessed him to do so. After a brief stay at Lahore, he reached Ajmer along with Sultan Shahb-ud-Din Muhammad Ghori, and settled down there. In Ajmer, he attracted a substantial following, acquiring a great deal of respect amongst the residents of the city. Mu'nuddn Chisht practiced the Sufi Sulh-e-Kul (peace to all) concept to promote understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims." (With thanks from the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moinuddin_Chishti)

These Iranians or Aryan people from Iran or Persia included the Sufi saints, sages, bhagats, fakir and spirituals who has been given a great respect in the Indian Civilization, particularly by the Sikhs as the Teachings of Sikhism include their teachings of nonviolence, peace, oneness, unity, love, equality and other human high morals in the Holy Book, the Living Guru, Shri Guru Granth Sahib. Its called the Gurbani. (Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Guru_Granth_Sahib)

Now, please think about these Sufi saints or bhagats and Indian Civilization: Why Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji blessed a Muslim invader against India to rule over India was due to high level of the corruption present in the 14th-15th century. http://sangatsansar.com/index3.asp?sslid=900&subsublinkid=1722&langid=1 all of it was due to injustice, corruption and crime, and so on...

"Babur was born on February 23 [O.S. February 14] 1483[12] in the town of Andijan, in the Fergana Valley in contemporary Uzbekistan. (With thanks from the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babur) and thus why USSR have usual infleunce over India and it also seems that communists seem to embrace Sufis and Sikhs as if something... and words cannot say it: "Uzbekistan Listeni/zbkstn/, officially the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbek: Ozbekiston Respublikasi or , zbekiston Respublikasi) is a doubly landlocked country in Central Asia and one of the six independent Turkic states. It shares borders with Kazakhstan to the west and to the north, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to the east, and Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to the south. Prior to 1991, it was part of the Soviet Union. Uzbekistan is a observing member of the Turkic Council." (With thanks from the source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uzbekistan)

However, as have shared Shri Guru Nanak blessed the Babar: "If thou, O Emperor, desireth kindness,

set all thy captives free." Babar agreed on the condition that his empire should be blessed by the Guru and should be allowed to continue for generations. The Guru promised," Thine empire shall remain for a long time." Upon this the Emperor ordered all the prisoners be set free. Babar then asked the Guru for instructions to rule. The Guru explained, "Deliver just judgement, reverence for holy men, forswear wine and gambling. The monarch who indulgeth in these vices shall, if he survives, bewail his misdeeds. Be merciful to the vanquished, and worship God in spirit and in truth." (With thanks from the source: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Guru_Nanak_at_Eminabad)

"Through Guru Nanak's own genius and the spiritual illumination that came from his long spells of Meditation, there shaped the character of the creed which he was to proclaim to the world and which became the basis and foundation of the Sikh relegion.

There were 9 other gurus (Prophets) that consecutively followed his lineage, all receiving Divine revalations but only under his name NANAK without attributing any such revelatory passages to their own names. This culminated in the 11th the last and eternal Guruship bestowed on the Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS), which has been called the Mona, meaning the , silent Guru, being in book form, as recorded in the ancient Hindu and other such contemporary resources, the VEDAS. This thus has a millennial dimension which will come to light in the pages that follow..." (With thanks from the source: http://www.earthportals.com/Portal_Messenger/nanak.html) its titled as:
