DEDUCTIVE REASONING Deductive Reasoning The follow paper will identify why is it important to understand what is known prior to making a decision. Also, I will address the role of deductive reasoning aid in the decision making process. Lastly, I will cover how the process of deductive reasoning aid in understanding an argument. Decision making It is important to understand what is known prior to making a decision because it gives a

premises of the subject you are reading or hearing about. Then you can take the information that you have and obtaining and check it for veracity. As stated in Moore and Parker (2012Categorical syllogisms are standardized deductive arguments; we can test them for validity by the Venn diagram method or by the rules method, the latter relies on the notions of distribution and the affirmative and negative qualities of the claims involved. By using deductive reasoning you can prove an argument to be false. For example, In Buying a Home Versus Renting an Apartment it states In todays economy, the risk of home ownership can be considered too much for the average buyer; however, several reasons exist to choose a home over a rental. The last statement may be true for some people but it may be totally false for another group of people. Some people like the closeness of living in an apartment and cheaper rent. The ability for kids to interact with other kids on a day to day basis is a positive for living in apartment instead of a house. I believe in all of the arguments that we were given, it depends on how persuasive the writing is the change the thinking of the reader. Deductive reasoning aids in understanding an argument because it shows and breaks down both sides of the story. It helps show how the writer got to a certain conclusion. Or it shows how we can here the same story and come up with different answers to the same question.
