Database and Research Methodology The present study is an attempt to examine the performance of Nationalized banks in terms of Camel

ratios , capital adequacy ratio, NPA, Earning and liquidity. for this perpose, the data have been collected from the RBI website i.e. Report on trends and progress of banking in india , statistical tables relating to banks, etc RBI bulletin. Data collected is compared for 26 Public baks for the year of 2007-2012. All the websites of the banks have been explored for analysis. This section explains in detail the objectives, period, sampling and ranking methodology. For assessing the performance of Indian Public Banks the world renowned CAMEL model is adopted. CAMEL stands for Capital Adequacy, asset Quality, management, Earnings quality and Liquidity.

CAMEL model CAMEL stands for capital Adequacy, asset Quality management, Earning Quality and Liquidity. It is considered as the best available method for evaluating banks performance and health of the bank since it considers all areas of banking operation.
