MOTIVATION

Motivation There are four contexts that motivate learning; they are practical, personal, experiential and idealistic. Practical context means that you want to know what you are going to gain before you learn it. Personal context means that you are learning for a purpose, it is something that you want to achieve for you. Experiential context is when you use past life experiences to better your future. Idealistic context is when you have an open mind when studying theories and concepts to ascertain something new.

I believe that the personal context motivates me in my journey of learning. I started my degree in childhood education because I want to teach children the fundamentals of education. I find great enjoyment out of watching the kids blossom in learning, that moment when the light bulb goes on and they just get it. I was substituting for a kindergarten class a few years ago; it was a long term assignment so I was with this class for 5 weeks. One day a little girl whom had been working so hard to read this one book, and then when she finally got through the whole book she had the most wonderful look of pride on her face. It is moments like this that give me motivation to learn.
