Which Education Philosophy Best Fits Me As A Future Teacher?

As a future teacher Im confronted with many questions. Will I be a good teacher? How
many students will I have in my classroom? How will I know if my students understand the
material being covered? What educational philosophy best fits me as a future teacher? As I
continue my journey of becoming an elementary school teacher, I will learn from my colleagues
who have had many years of experience in the field of education. Albeit I will be doing most of
my learning from my students since their academic progress will be a reflection of my method of
teaching.
What educational philosophy will I use in my classroom? After looking through the
educational philosophies I would say that Im an Idealists. I believe that all students should look
at teachers as role models. For example, I anticipate that after a lecture in class my students will
be open to a discussions in order to share their ideas. In my opinion, students should have an
appropriate environment that makes them feel safe and teachers should always encourage
students to ask questions.
I would also consider myself to be a realist even though unlike idealists they consider
science to be an essential tool in learning. I believe students should be grounded and learn from
experimentation and through observation. Education should help guide a student though life
challenges that they would have looked impossible to do before being schooled. For example, if
Im teaching my class about Dinosaurs from a textbook I would also take them on a field trip to
the museum in order to get hands on experience. Once at the museum I would have the students
excavate for Dinosaur bones in order to get hands on understanding of what paleontologists go
through to find this bones.

In my class I will be not give my students unrealistic tasks in hopes that all my students
will be able to meet class requirements. To sum it up, my dream would be to have a positive
impact on my students and I would love to see students come back to visit me as adults to tell me
that I was that one teacher who gave them that extra push they needed. I can only hope that
when I do use my philosophies in my own classroom my students will be receptive and I will be
victorious in my quest of becoming a great teacher.
