Educational Philosophy Statement

My teaching philosophy falls in-between the progressivism philosophy and

existentialism. As a teacher I believe my role is not only to teach the basic subjects such as math,

English, and science, but to mold my students into outstanding people. I see my purpose as

teaching students not only basic facts, but to be able to think for themselves and decide what is

right or wrong.

My classroom will be a safe space for my students with bright colors and a happy feel to

it. The classroom will be well organized, so the students can easily find supplies. In my

classroom students will be able to express themselves without fear of judgement from peers or

myself. We will have a daily routine to help provide structure to their lives and prevent the

anxiety of uncertainty. It will be a place where students walk into and feel the weight of the

world lifted off of their shoulders.

I believe that to be an effective teacher for all of your students you must use a variety of

teaching styles. It is impossible for me to choose a specific teaching style I will use because it

depends entirely on the students I have and the subjects I am teaching. I can however say that I

am a believer that doing is learning, therefore no matter the subject I can guarantee that there will

be demonstrations that will lead to the students trying the task themselves.

In order to make sure that the students are not afraid of participating in class because they

are afraid to get the answer wrong, I will make sure that my students understand that mistakes
are proof that you are trying. They will know that the class is a safe place to try and that

everybody makes mistakes. I believe that as a teacher it is my responsibility to keep up to date on

the new fads and media trends. It is important to be able to relate the subjects you are teaching

the students, to the current trends. This will keep the students interested and make the classroom

more fun to be in. When you try to incorporate what the students are interested in to the

classroom it shows that you care about them as people.

My goal as a teacher is to provide a space where my students can feel the pressures and

anxieties of the world leave them. I want to inspire them to learn more about the subjects they

love and feel free to express themselves. I hope to leave a lasting impact on my students lives of

how much I cared for them as people. Overall, after my students move on from my classroom, no

matter how old they are, I want them to not think of me as just a teacher, but to think of me as

their teacher.
