Philosophy of Education
(a work in progress)

When thinking about education in its entirety and the type of educator I strive to be, a
multitude of aspects and traits flood my mind. First and foremost, I believe that it is imperative
that as educators we continue to understand the importance of differentiated instruction and
individualized student needs. No one student will be the same as another, and they should not be
treated as such. In order to optimize learning spaces, we must continue to recognize student
differences and personalize learning to fit the individual student. Teaching one way is no longer
sufficient, nor acceptable. I aspire to be an educator who works with students to understand what
works best in order to create the best learning environment possible. I plan to always encourage
student feedback in order to better my teaching practices, as well as student learning and well-
being both in and out of the classroom.

I find it extremely important that students feel comfortable within my classroom and have
no problem coming to me with any questions or concerns. Having that level of trust ultimately
breeds openness and honesty and fosters a healthy student-teacher relationship. I strive to create
an environment filled with positive experiences that encourage student growth, and where
students are free to develop meaningful relationships with learning and education. Furthermore, I
want students to feel free to be their authentic selves. As a future educator I think that being
accepting of everyone and embracing student differences is a must. It is simply something that
all teachers should do. I aspire to support students at all learning levels and provide students with
a safe and inclusive environment.

I also highly align with the notion that technology is a big part of the future of education.
We live in an ever-evolving technological world, making it crucial that educators stay up to date
on all current software and digital tools. By not doing so, we are doing students a great
disservice, ultimately inhibiting student growth by working in the past. I hope to utilize multiple
digital tools within my own classroom, creating a variety of interactive and engaging lessons for
students. Technology opens many doors and allows for an increase in student engagement,
understanding, and overall efficiency of the class. I plan to encourage students to use their
technological devices to enhance their educational experience and help them develop a love for
education and learning.

I also believe that students who find meaning within their education are more likely to
enjoy learning and build upon their individual abilities. Once that initial love for learning
blooms, I don’t think it ever truly goes away; therefore, helping students uncover their love for
learning will help them not only within my class, but throughout their entire lives. I plan to
always exemplify the importance of what I am teaching and encourage students to make real-
world connections. In doing so, students will develop a greater appreciation for what they are
learning and will be able to apply concepts to their everyday lives.

I firmly believe that being a teacher is easily one of the most important jobs one can have.
As a future educator, I do not take my position lightly and recognize that I will be directly
influencing the next generation of people who could contribute to making the world a better
place. If I am able to inspire even one student to think outside of the box and follow their
dreams, I will have succeeded in my career. I hope to motivate students, get them thinking about
what they would like to pursue, introduce them to a multitude of concepts and digital tools, and
foster their love for learning. I recognize that teaching is far more than a job, and moreover it is
far more than simply teaching students the curriculum. As a future educator, I hope to foster
individuality and progressive thinking, work to uncover and amplify student potential and teach
students fundamental life skills.
