TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

ANGELA MENDOZA
My philosophy is based on the belief that through education, students can grow and develop into
well-rounded individuals capable of building a successful and prosperous life. I believe that
education can provide the necessary skills and tools for students to become critical thinkers and
make informed decisions. As a teacher my goal is to create a supportive environment in the
classroom where students can build their confidence and flourish as life-long learners so they can
thrive in today’s world.
I have always loved being a student. The joy and satisfaction I get from learning new knowledge
is always rewarding. I admire the teachers I’ve had for instilling that love for life-long learning
in me. So, my decision to pursue a career in teaching is due to my intrinsic desire to make the
same positive impact in children’s lives. My goal is to create strong connections with my
students with open communication and mutual respect. I find positive student-teacher
relationships important for student success as they create a collaborative learning environment
and enhance student engagement.
Therefore, my teaching style is focused on student-centered learning. I think student success is
the primary focus of education. I aim to create meaningful learning experiences where students
can build personal connections to the content and apply their knowledge. I plan to create
meaningful and relevant lessons that help students make real-world connections. I understand the
importance of using instructional strategies that address the learning styles and needs of every
student in the classroom. Every assessment and homework assignment should have a purpose for
students’ learning and draw upon their strengths to best measure their academic development.
With a combination of social interactions, content literacy routines, technology, connections of
new knowledge to prior knowledge, and hands-on learning experiences to name a few, my goal
is to maintain student interest and therefore enhance their learning.
As a life-long learner myself, I welcome constructive feedback. I will need to learn and grow
along with my students to ensure I am bringing my best teaching skills and knowledge. If I want
to contribute to the betterment of society, I must be willing to adapt and be flexible. I wish to be
a prosperous educator by modeling the critical thinking skills and informed decisions I will be
teaching my students.
My hope is that students enter my classroom and know that it’s a place where they matter and are
valued as individuals. I want students to learn self-respect and respect for others. And when
students leave my classroom, I hope to have instilled an inspiration to stay curious and never
stop asking questions about our world. I hope to encourage students to find their own passions,
even if that’s not within my content area. If students leave my classroom knowing I genuinely
cared for their well-being and recall me as an educator who contributed to their academic
development, I have achieved my biggest goal: make a positive impact in students’ lives.
