A. Content Standard: The learners acquire knowledge of appropriate readings in strategies for
a better understanding of academic text.

B. Performance Standard: The learners produce a detailed abstract of information gathered


from the various academic texts read.

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson the learners should be able to:
1. Define academic writing and distinguish it from other kinds of writing.
2. Identify the purpose, audience, language, and style of academic writing.
3. Analyze sample text using the standards of academic writing.
4. And situate academic writing in the Phil. Context.

B. Motivation: Who among you here have you been assigned to do a book review or reaction
paper?
C. Establishing a purpose for the lesson:
Group the class into 5 members in each group. Let’s have a group discussion.

D. Presentation:
At this point, you were also asked to write poems, skits, letters, etc.

E. Discussion :
You have had different writing assignments, but have you really pondered on the differences of
the various writing assignments that you have done?
Would you know the differences between an academic essay and personal narrative?
Can you distinguish a news report from an editorials?

F. Generalization:
Based on your answers, what do you think is academic writing and its differences from other
kinds of writing?
