The status of Oil Palm production in Ghana A.

Kabutey Abstract This article is primarily focused on the present situation of oil palm production in Ghana. In Ghana, the oil palm industry has developed over the last two decades into huge and important industry which comes next only to cocoa in the agricultural sector of the economy. However, consumption of palm oil in Ghana for food and industrial purposes exceeds domestic supplies hence palm oil has been imported for decades. This paper highlights the contributions of major companies, research institutions, medium-scale farms, small-scale farms and private holdings promoting oil palm cultivation to increase production. Also the Government interventions and plans to revive the oil palm industry in Ghana to meet domestic and industrial demands as well as to compete on the global market have been addressed.
