Welcome back. We hope you enjoyed your Easter break and are looking forward to the final term.

This term, Year 6 will be starting a new theme entitled Silence is Golden. We will be looking at the stars of the 1920s screen and the children will be discussing the features of silent movies so that they can write, direct, act and video their own film. This theme will be ICT based as well as focussing on our key skills of collaborative learning and creativity.

As part of our launch children will be watching The Artist, the award winning film from 2011 which was in the style of a silent movie. Next half term the theme will be Moving On and Growing Up. There will be a focus on drug and alcohol awareness through PSHE. Children will begin Bikeability, have first aid training by St Johns Ambulance and will attend Crucial Crew workshops which address issues that may face children as they move onto senior school. There will also be a geography focus and children will be investigating a current affair issue that may impact on the local community. This will entail map work, conducting surveys and questioning the general public. Bikeability This is cycling training which will enable your child to ride safely and confidently on the road. It is the only Government approved and nationally recognised award for cycling training today. There are three award levels, with a level to suit all abilities and your child will receive a badge and certificate. Children will need a roadworthy bicycle and undamaged helmet for these sessions. The instructors have been booked between Monday 24th June and Tuesday 2nd July and you will receive a consent form and details providing the exact dates of your childs sessions during this period.

Kingswood There will be a Kingswood and SATs meeting on Wednesday 24th April. This will provide more details regarding the residential trip. If you are unable to attend, please ensure that your child collects any handouts from the meeting.
