This is the official notice that your Area of Study Task speeches will held in Year 11 Assessment Week One (Week 9 - beginning 25th March) Speeches will be held in your normal timetabled classroom and will be presented to your English teacher. A roster will be organised for you. Task:

To what extent do you agree with this statement?

In your speech explain and assess the ways in which these ideas about The Journey are represented in texts you have studied. In your discussion you must to refer to: (a) Your Area of Study prescribed text. (b) At least one piece of additional Material from your own Area of Study folder.

Time: Five minutes. A warning bell will be rung at four minutes, and a final bell at five minutes. You will not be allowed to exceed five minutes. When your time reaches five minutes you will be asked to stop. Weighting: 20% Originality: Please note that you are required to prepare this speech by yourself, without undue assistance from others. You will be asked to sign a document to verify that this is your own original piece of work. Rubric: In the Area of Study, students are required to explore the ways in which the ideas about The Journey are considered in and expressed through texts, and to reflect on representations and interpretations of The Journey in their Area of Study text and additional texts of their own choosing. Students should show an understanding of how meaning is conveyed, shaped and interpreted, and to be able to make connections between and among texts.

Outcomes: In this task you will be assessed on Outcomes 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, & 10. Marking Criteria: In this task, you will be assessed on how well you: Explain the meaning of the contents of your Area of Study text and relevant and challenging additional material, and show what each of these says about The Journey. Analyse the meaning of each of these texts and their relevance to ideas about The Journey. You should also show how they are connected by elements of the idea of The Journey, using a synthesised and unified argument. Express yourself using appropriate language, and observe the proper conventions of public speaking.
