DOS 521 - Lecture Summary Dustin Melancon 2/10/2013 Keitt Mobile Discusses the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists

My medical dosimetry class had the opportunity to attend an online lecture given by the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists (AAMD) President, Keitt Mobile. My classmates and I learned about the AAMD followed by Keitt answering all of our questions. Keitt engaged me with her well-prepared presentation and solidified my interest in becoming an active member of the AAMD. Keitt began the lecture by giving her background information and how she became involved with the AAMD. She shared topics on AAMD membership benefits, how to get involved, eligibility changes for the certification board, and the outlook of our profession. Keitt taught me about the continuing education (CE) initiative, Member Plus. This online education

platform can provide up to 20 CE credits in one year for $100. I believe online content provides an incredible opportunity for individuals who prefer a flexible learning environment. One thing that especially interested me was the current effort in listing medical dosimetry as a stand-alone entity. Medical dosimetry is currently listed under radiation therapy. Keitt explained that being recognized by the Internal Revenue Services and the Bureau of Labor Statistics can help our profession better plan for the future. Keitts dedication and contributions to medical dosimetry do not go unnoticed. I am appreciative that my professors and Keitt involved my class for the lecture. Thank you Keitt for spending time to answer our questions. Although I did not bring this up during the lecture, I suggest creating a mobile AAMD application for regional and annual meetings. This application could be useful in obtaining surveys and audience feedback during lectures in a fun, interactive way. The well-organized lecture made me happy to learn about AAMDs strong interest for continuing education and establishing education standards. Our profession has high standards to ensure that we continue to provide excellent patient care. I am thrilled that the AAMD is committed to helping medical dosimetry move forward and I intend to support this each step of the way.
