A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This lesson plan introduces the concept of respect and how all students have the right to feel safe in a learning environment. B. Target Population: Grade Level: 1st Skill Level: on level Grouping: Whole group for reading of text and brainstorming problems/solutions from text. Pairs for writing/drawing additional lyrics. C. Materials: Hooway for Wodney Wat Paper Pencil Copy of Respect Rap D. Objectives: NV State Social Studies Standards C13.1.2 Identify an individual's rights within the classroom

Student-Friendly Standards I can name my rights in the classroom.

E. Procedure: 1. Teacher will read Hooway for Wodney Wat to the class. 2. Students will brainstorm problems and solutions from book. 3. Teacher leads students to see how all people should be respected. 4. Class brainstorms how respect can be shown. Teacher writes the ideas on the board. 5. Teacher discusses how rules can create respect and introduces a RESPECT RAP to the class. 6. Students brainstorm with partners alternative words for respect and together create additional lyrics for the rap. They can be written or drawn. 7. CLOSURE: A pair of partners group with the other pair at each table and share their ideas for the new rap lyrics. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? Teacher will collect students additional lyrics. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.
