Personal Statements

There are 3 main areas to cover in your personal statement: 1. Why do you want to do this course? 2. What makes you right for the course? 3. What else have you done that would contribute to university life? Think about the answers to the following questions, it will help you when writing your personal statement. If you are applying for a vocational course such as nursing or teaching the sections on relevant experience will be of particular importance.

What do you know about the course and why does it interest you?

What interests you the most about the course?

What could this course lead you to?

Why you?
What have you studied at College that is relevant to the course?

What relevant work experience have you had and what have you learnt from that experience?

Do you do any interests that relate to the course?

How would you contribute to university life?


What interests do you have?

If you have a job what skills have you learnt from it?

Are you a member of any clubs or groups?

What about any special achievements?

You can use the information from the worksheet for your personal statement. Remember your personal statement needs a strong opening and closing sentence.
