FICCI-MEDICAL ELECTRONICS FORUM

LAUNCHED
ANJAN BOSE OF PHILIPS ELECTRONICS TO CHAIR FORUM

NEW DELHI, October 23, 2007. In a bid to meet the requirements of the US$ 1.5
billion Indian medical electronics industry and create an awareness about the
opportunities in the next growth area after the IT sector, FICCI today launched
the FICCI-MEF (FICCI Medical Electronics Forum).

The FICCI-MEF, Chaired by Mr. Anjan Bose, Senior Director, Indian Sub-
Continent, Philips Electronics India Ltd., aims at focusing on quality, safety and
regulatory issues through harmonization of standards, testing and calibration;
apprise the government about various issues of concern and suggest mechanisms to
spur the growth of the sector; and generating an awareness about the available
advancements and benefits in medicare and medical electronics technology among
healthcare stakeholders.

The Forum will also focus on skill development and knowledge upgradation
through appropriate industry-academia-research body cooperation; promoter
medical electronics technology for affordable and quality healthcare; and facilitate
a favorable policy environment for large scale investments in R&D and
manufacturing of medical electronics technology.

The FICC-MEF Core Group Members are: India Medtronic, Philips, Boston
Scientific, Johnson & Johnson, GE, BPL, Wipro, HD Medical and Abbott
Vascular.

The Forum is classified in three sub-groups, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing


and R&D.

The Technical Sub-Group on Regulatory Affairs is led by India Medtronic


Managing Director, Mr. Milind Shah, who is also Co-Chairman, FICCI-MEF.
The members of the Sub-Group are: India Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Johnson &
Johnson Medical, Wipro, Texas Instruments, HD Medical and Abbott Vascular.

The Sub-Group on Manufacturing is led by GE Medical Systems Vice-


President, Government Relations & Customer Solution, Mr. A K Kakkar. He
is also Co-Chairman of FICCI-MEF. The members of the Sub-Group are: BPL,
GE, and Philips.

The Sub-Group on R&D is led by Texas Instruments India Director of


Corporate Business, Mr. Shyam Banerji. The Sub-Group members are: BPL,
GE, and Philips, HD Medical, Texas Instruments and Wipro.
