OVERVIEW OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT

This website has been created to summarize the process of managing an e-learning project. An e-learning project is unique due to high expectations for success with high-profile sponsorship but minimal financial backing. Elearning projects usually require rapid deployment along with very high quality outcomes and a tight budget. The challenge of managing an e-learning project is maintain the quality of planning while still moving the project along quickly. For any e-learning project management to work, there must be a high level of trust between the elearning customers and the product developers, a firm grasp of risk management, great negotiating skills, and the ability to manage multiple activities within very tight timeframes. There are many project management models, but the most popular model is the IPECC. This model is accepted worldwide. This project management model is not linear, as the middle three phases are iterative. Changes in one of the three middle phases will require changes in the other two.

There are five phases to the IPECC management model:

Vision for the project is articulated. Goals and expectations are defined. Outline of the scope of the project. Scope of the project is refined. Project team is assembled. Specific tasks and activities are defined. Plan is developed. Schedule is created. Budget is decided upon. Goals will be accomplished through: Developing and leading the team. Solving problems. Building the project. Changes will be monitored and corrections will be made. Schedule might be adjusted in order to respond to problems. Project is delivered to the sponsor. Results are acknowledged. Overall success of the project is assessed.
