Democritus Everything is composed of Atoms; Which are physically indivisible; between atoms there is empty space; can never

be destroyed; are always in motion and there are an infinite number of atoms.

John Dalton All atoms are indivisible and indestructible. All elements of a certain element identical to one another. Compounds are a combination of 2 or more different kinds of atoms. A chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms.

William Crookes Confirmed the scientist before him works by showing cathode rays have a negative charge.

J.J. Thomson Said that atoms were made out of small particles; When he tested it, he discovered electrons.

Protons, Electrons

Ernest Rutherford Nucleus, Protons, Electrons He shot alpha particles through an atom and discovered that some of the particles deflected off. Meaning that there is a small, concentrated area in the middle of it. Discovered the protons. Proposed the presence of a neutral particle.

Robert Millikan Mass of an electron was 1000 times smaller than the smallest atom. Used his oil drop experiment.

Niels Bohr Nucleus, Protons, Electrons Used Quantum Theory to say that electrons traveled around the atoms nucleus in a stationary orbit. This helped make the theory that there are different energy levels in atoms.

Erwin Schrdinger

Nucleus, Protons, Electrons

Found, using a mathematical equation, that energies are quantized and where the electron is possibly at depicted using something called Orbitals.

James Chadwick Proved the existence of the atom.
