A form of streptococcus Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Necrotizing Fasciitis is a group A Streptococci

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS


Early symptoms include:
Sudden, severe pain in the affected area Fever, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and other flue-like symptoms Redness, heat, swelling, or fluid-filled blisters on the infected area.

Later symptoms include:


Signs of Shock Scaling, peeling, or discolored skin on infected area.

COMPLICATIONS
Jaundice (Yellowing or skin or eyes) Kidney failure Scarring Sepsis Tissue loss Amputation

INCIDENCE/PREVALENCE
Listed as a rare disease meaning that it affects less than 200,000 people in the US population 1 in 453,333 in the US About 600 people deal with Necrotizing fasciitis at any given time in the US

MEANS OF TRANSMISSION
All of the same ways you get Strep A, by being exposed to mucus when someone coughs or sneezes and touching it into something like a small cut.

RESERVOIR
The reservoir is in the skin and mucus membranes of us, same place Strep A is held

TREATMENT
Surgery that removes the infected tissue and fluids Medicines Procedures to treat the complications that can occur such as shock, respiratory problems, and organ failure Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy Amputations

TREATMENT EFFECTIVENESS
Treatment effectiveness works very well as long as patient sees medical attention early. Most of the time the patient will receive amputations to stop the spreading of it

Necrotizing means something that causes body tissues to die Fasciitis means inflammation of the fascia of a muscle or organ Earliest reference to the disease was in 1871 by Joseph Jones, who seen more than 2,600 cases of it in the American Civil War.

POPULATION MORE SUSCEPTIBLE


There isnt any population more susceptible than another and this is because everyone can possibly carry Strep A on them at any given time. But people with diabetes have a higher chance to get it.
