costs fall with Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station

Whether building a new network, expanding capacity or coverage, or modernizing existing GSM assets, Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station opens up new possibilities for radio networks, enabling a reduction in the number of base station sites, as well as the networks capital and operational costs.

With our Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station, operators may build networks, add GSM capacity and coverage, or modernize their existing GSM networks in an innovative way. Whether working in new growth or mature markets, it is possible to enjoy substantially reduced rollout costs and rapid time-to-market, coupled with the flexibility to expand capacity limitlessly to match growing needs.

Built from compact weatherproof modules, Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station eliminates the need for bulky, space-consuming cabinets, opening up a wealth of new site types to provide coverage in dense areas. Modules can be stacked on the floor or on a shelf, fixed on walls or poles, and are small enough to be installed in completely new locations such as bus stops, kiosk roofs and even small indoor closets. The all-purpose base station Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station is highly adaptable. The same modules can be used to build either macrocellular or microcellular coverage. Small or large configurations are also possible, from a single TRX configuration right up to 216 TRX, indoors or outdoors. Operators can use Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station to meet all applications and coverage needs, whether building wide area coverage for rural areas or microcellular sites to provide capacity for hot spots or urban areas.

Flexible capacity in the smallest size Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station can be configured with between one and 216 TRX, providing smooth capacity growth that precisely matches demand. By using compact modules, Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station provides a new level of flexibility for building both outdoor and indoor sites. Plus, eliminating the need for a cabinet, which is often quite large, makes Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station the markets smallest GSM macro base station for any capacity. For example, with Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station, you are not forced into using a 24 TRX cabinet when you only need a 6 TRX base station. The high level of integration enables a 24 TRX Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station to fit into the same volume as a conventional 12 TRX cabinet. In addition, a 4+4+4 TRX configuration can be built with a module stack less than one meter high.

Fewer sites needed Available in GSM 800, 900, 1800 and 1900 frequency bands, Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station offers industry-leading radio performance. A balanced link featuring high transmit power and excellent receiver sensitivity helps create larger cell size for greater coverage. There are several other ways to boost the base stations reach even further. Nokia Flexi EDGE TRX can be used in double power mode, while the base station supports Nokia Smart Radio Concept (SRC), together enabling output power of 200W. The uplink performance can be improved by using four-way uplink diversity and masthead amplifiers. The modular design and small size enables to choose better sites in network planning point of view. The base station can be installed next to the antenna, avoiding the need for long feeder cables that attenuate the signal. We also support operators with planning services to achieve optimum placement of base stations during network planning. With these measures, the number of sites required can be reduced by up to 50 percent, helping accelerate rollout and bring down radio network costs even further.

Low site costs, indoors or outdoors With Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station, site acquisition is simplified by the wider choice of possible locations, while the civil works needed to prepare a site are much reduced. The base station modules are small and light enough to be carried and installed by a single person. No special lifting equipment is needed, outdoor shelters are unnecessary, there is no need for costly air conditioning for indoor or outdoor installations, and base station commissioning requires no special skills. The base stations modular design and small size opens access to new sites, increasing the chance of finding an optimum location for the base station. Whats more, rental costs for these new types of sites are typically lower than conventional sites. With the markets lowest footprint-tocapacity ratio, Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station uses existing site space more efficiently. Modules can be stacked on the floor, mounted on walls or fitted within existing cabinets, re-using existing transmission capability and power supply back-up investments.

Enjoy lowest Total Cost of Ownership With its many cost-saving features, Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station helps operators achieve a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for the radio network. The combination of lower CAPEX and OPEX per site, and fewer sites in total, adds up to much lower overall costs during planning, implementation and operation of the network. Ready for tomorrow The base station is ready for the multiradio future, as subscribers demand access to mobile data using the highest data rates available. The Nokia Flexi Base Station platform covers not only GSM/EDGE, but WCDMA/HSPA and WiMAX technologies too. Operators can deploy different modules in the same stack to create multiradio sites and quickly introduce new frequency variants and new radio technologies. Using one platform helps reduce costs, as maintenance and deployment engineers only need to be trained in one base station type. Tackling environmental concerns Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Stations high performance and compact

size enable coverage and capacity to be built using less equipment across fewer and smaller sites. This approach is inherently environmentally friendly. Lower transportation needs further enhance the environmental benefits of our smart logistics solutions. With its small size, Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station uses less manufacturing materials, complying with European Union environmental directives, such as RoHS. Meanwhile, the base stations exceptionally low electricity consumption, helped by the elimination of power-hungry air conditioning, brings environmental benefits in daily operation. Services that create more value Nokia Flexi EDGE Base Station is available with a full portfolio of tailored Nokia Siemens Networks services. We have invested in developing people and processes and have an extensive track record of successful network deployments in multi-vendor environments and modernization projects.
