RESEARCH PROPOSAL Scenario: Imagine that you are a graduate student in the discipline of your choice at the graduate

school of your choice. Before you begin your dissertation/thesis, you must submit a research proposal to the university and department for approval and funding. Assignment: Review the section in Handbook of Technical Writing about proposals paying particular attention to the section on grant and research proposals. Research, organize, compose, and edit a research proposal on the topic or problem of your choice. Please make sure that the research proposal contains the components listed on page 433. Specifics: The document should be written in standard grammatical English and should be no longer than fifteen pages in length. The typeface should be easy-to-read, the lines should be double-spaced, and the font size should be exactly twelve point (except for headings). Students should feel free to use typography, rules, headings, and a table of contents to organize the research proposal and makes its contents clear and accessible. The document should also include a bibliography/Works Cited/Works Consulted page (if required), and the document should adhere to either MLA, APA, or other disciplinerelated formats in terms of documenting sources and quoted material. Additionally, students will be required to bring rough drafts (and copies) on the dates specified below. Quotes: Not required for this assignment; however, students should feel free to use them if necessary or required. Hints: Choose a narrowly defined topic or problem to ease research and writing.
