Brianna Willis 2nd Hour In the book, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom goes through many changes.

Whether an event causes it, or he decides to change himself, Tom grows up throughout the book. Some of these events are large and some are small. Whatever happens, Tom will change for whom he loves, and what he believes is right. To begin with, Tom wrote a message on a piece of bark. He was going to leave that bark to tell Aunt Polly that he was alive so that she would not worry. He took out his sycamore scroll and placed it by the candle." (Twain, p. 117) Although Tom did go back with the scroll in his pocket, he still changed in a small way. Still, I think that this quote proves that he cares about his Aunt who parented him and he does not like to see her suffer. Second, Tom testified at the murder case. He tells the judge the story because he could not keep quiet and see innocent Muff Potter hung for Injun Joes crimes. "--and as the doctor fetched the board around and Muff Potter fell, Injun Joe jumped with the knife and---." (Tom, p. 171) I think Toms sympathy for the poor man who had been tricked by the lying, cheating murderer into thinking that he was guilty for a crime he did not commit caused him to grow up and tell the truth at the court case. Lastly, Tom thought about saving some of the money for the future when he talked to Huck about the treasure. "I'm going to buy a new drum, and a sure-'nough sword, and a red neck -tie and a bull pup, and get married." (Tom, p. 177) I think that most of these things many boys Toms age would get with money. However, the last thing Tom said was something that only someone who thought not only about themselves but of others too would use the money to get married. In conclusion, Tom will change for whom he loves and what he believes is right. Tom changed a little when he thought that Aunt Polly would be worried for him so he wrote a note. Tom testified and told the truth at the court case. Finally, he was going to get married with the money. All of these events show that Tom becomes more mature by the end of the book.
